I have an 05 rage and in the last 200 miles I blew three belts. I cleaned and inspected clutches made sure everything is set to stock. It does not seem to be slipping just overheating. any suggetions what to check?

Stupid question,do you know how old (age wise) the belts were? And where they might have been stored? Grasping here! Good luck!

First one was new this year 1200 km on it. Second one was on the sled when I bought it took it off for a spare, after changing the first belt maybe got ten miles out of it. Next day dissassembled clutches put in dishwasher with an almost new (but purchased two years ago) carlisle ultimax belt and got about 60 miles out of that. First two belts were yamaha 8DN's. I know the second two weren't ideal belts two put on but they still should have lasted longer than that.

Is it possible that the secondary spring is to tight and in the deep powder when the sled is working hard the secondary isn't opening enough and straining the belt to the point of blowing apart? All three belts were riding in temperatures right around 0degrees celsius(32 f) and deep soft snow with long stretches of wide open throttle, let off for a second and open it up again.

Not yet. Could this change without motor mounts breaking or what could cause it. Everything seems tight and turning free.

I was surfing around looking for threads relative to the Gates Xtreme belts and ran across this issue.

Did you check the sheaves on your primary for grooves? 8DN's are hard belts and if you cruise a lot at a constant speed you can wear a groove in the primary. The guy that does most of my mechanic work was able to fix mine (almost) with a sanding block and some emery paper but I wouldn't recommend that unless you really know what you are doing. You can have the sheaves machined slightly or the most expensive option (by a long shot) is replacing them.
