Well got to say never pulled the trigger on a supercharged sled prior to last week when the guys and I made a U.P. run.

talked with another ty member when we were in Houghton MI and he was selling his 08 FX Nytro, stretched and supercharged with all the bells and whistles. Sled pulled like a moster compared to my XTX. Started seeing that it was dumping oil like crazy. The fellow ty member that my buddy bought the sled from said, "Oh it is just to thin of oil, I am changing to 5w instead of 0w."

So needless to say my buddy bought it from our fellow ty member. Was running on 9lbs of boost, 93 octane with torco race fuel additive. Yeah freaking thing would walk and hide from xtx at 85mph. Pull the skis about 8 inches off the trail at 85 and just eat until 106mph.

Sad ending to the story is, we did not like the fact the sled was just dumping oil out the breather tube. Yeah about one and a half quarts in 190 miles of riding. Got the sled home and performed a leak down test on the motor. Cylinder #1 (pto side) 30%, # 2 roughly 50% and #3 was at roughly 90%.

Dealer said, "Yeah the motor is running just about solely on the third cylinder. If you would have run it much longer probably would have completely seized the motor."

My buddy tried to call our ty member to tell him about the issue and all he got was, "What you mean the motor was bad?" ;)!

NICE. #$%&*

Love the pull of the super charged motor but not sure if it is worth the money to have the dealer perform the work, or do we do it???????

Stock motor? If so then sounds like 9 lbs was a smidge too much... even with the Torco.

it all comes down to what you can afford, I can say it would be hard for me to go back to stock after running 6-7 pounds boost.

Unless the dealer has exp. in building motors and working on boosted machines I would steer clear of that. More than likely they will farm out the engine work and you will be paying them to learn about forced induction. Find a performance shop that works with this stuff, not only will it be cheaper, it will be right. FPP or H&H Performance have a lot of experience with these and now is the time to have the work done don't wait until the fall when everyone is slammed. 93 octane form the UP and 9#'s on a stock motor is disaster period!

when you buy used it's BUYER BEWARE, if i saw oil leaking from a sled i sure wouldnt buy it without investigating it. why was the sled ran for 190 miles while it was leaking oil? seems careless

Motor

Yeah my buddy should have not pulled the trigger on it and bought the sled when it was loosing oil from the breather tube. But not knowing anything about the supercharged motors I was no help saying buy or not. Just was going off the ty members word that it is normal for the supercharged motor to blow oil like that, especially when he was running to thin of an oil.

Buyer Beware is true............. #$%&*

That is a real bummer because for all you knew it was normal like you said. I know my last trip out west my sled was blowing some oil but it was because the level was to high to start with. There has been so many times I have had oil scares and it turns out to be something simple and stupid. Like tipping it over slightly.

ya maybe that guy really was clueless and didnt know anything was wrong, but maybe he did.... its sad these days you have to be more and more careful with people.

At 9 lbs the stock injectors cannot feed the engine at your altitude, and can just barley keep up at 8lbs.
I had a SC xtx , 800 ft above sea level and had MPI added fuel system added also, at 9 lbs for the first 700ft a/f 12.5 all ok , then all of a sudden it would go to a/f of 18 +++ every pull on the lake. Brought it back to 8 lbs all ok !
MPI said the flow 15 lbs , yes , but at their 7500 ft !! Not for us flat landers !

Take the engine apart send to Dave at Hurricane, Or Onestop Jim , they will fix you up ! Have them do the block and pistons and head install , you do the rest !

All I have to say is anyone that boosts a sled most likely will not have a clue.... myself included... I had to learn the hard way... I am on my 3rd motor, blew one and pushed the other to hard on pump gas. I think I finally have it figured out.

Just a word of warning, if you go boosted you have to expect to have issues, if you think it will be turn key sled, dont do the boost.

BTW, please PM me this so called TY person that sold you the sled.

Also from my experience 5 to 6 lbs max at sea level with 93 octane, anything more it will just be a matter of time before you destry the rings and start pushing oil.

When I got mine I didn't even run it went straight to ulmer for a shim and boy am I glad I did, after he fixed it then broke it for me at my request, we got it all buttoned up with known parts and its been 4 years now with zero motor/SC issues. Only 1 tow ever and that was for a stupid fuse to the gas pump, bumped that to 20 amps and been money ever since.

Do your homework and STUDY and LEARN the boost calc in the sticky section, I played with all sorts of variables and it really helped me understand how close or how safe I am when on the trail. Also dont trust all the fuel, I verify at every fill up the gas is 91 and how fresh it is. Torco is a good saftey net but not for every tank full in m opinion. I had to run 87 once and it lived on a full can of torco mixed in.

You have WAY to much boost, you will keep blowing that motor till you understand the compression and hp calculator.

Good luck

I agree with MrSled at altitude i wouldn't run over 6 psi on pump fuel.I'm running pump fuel with 5.8 lbs and no problems on a s/c nytro.
