We are doing some testing this season on the smaller wheels. I have 4000 miles on my Sidewinder and the stock wheels are all good still. I will test on my F1000. It can eat cat wheels every ride it seems.I replaced a few with Kimpex part # 3604-039, time will tell if they hold up any better than the stock wheels on a 18 XTX. Seems the inner wheels get the rubber beat up faster than the outer wheels so i have all 4 mounted outside the rails to try. did anyone try to replace the upper wheels with something that may be better than stock? I did the JT rear axle and wheels when sled was new, wish they had quality replacement for the rest of the wheeks in the skid and the uppers.

yea it is easier to get wheel 3604-039 or 3604-042 for Cat or Yamaha 5.630 20mm bearingThat is the Cat part number. The Kimpex number is 04-116-81 or 298891
On my Apex XTX I added the hyfax saver kit , which lowered the wheels .
You noticed an immediate difference as it would roll down slopes , that it wouldn't on it's own before , and would coast farther to a stop when letting off the gas .
Less friction = faster speed !
Not sure about your less waves theory , as I noticed an easier rolling sled and no wave feeling .
Just my experience for consideration .
Anyone else use that hyfax saver kit ?
I wanted to get it for my SW , but can't find them anymore.
Great point, but I think dependent on lubrication. No snow and/or ice need more wheels, lots of snow, less wheels.

I am stocking some wheels that are 5.62. They are a more robust wheel. Thicker width and thicker rubber. They come with NTN 6004 bearings also.

I went with stock wheels partially due to the availbality this time of year, at 4600 miles my wheels were pretty chewed up. I believe at least partially due to the stud install by the previous owner, many were loose, not seated fully...
fresh start for this season, I replaced all studs, bogie wheels, new 4th wheel kit, shocks being serviced now, should be good to go for a couple seasons. It will be interesting to see how the wheels hold up after a good stud install
