Page 30 of the new SnowTech magazine has a Boondocker Performance advertisement for a Side-Mount turbo for Apex, RX-1, and Vector.

The picture shows a turbo mounted in an Apex where the oil tank is (not sure where they moved the oil tank to).

Thoughts?

Looks interesting! And with boondockers efi control box...i'd really like more info on this. ;)!

Looks cool, where did the oil tank go, I see is also water cooled, and where is my snowtech?

I saw this also and was intrigued, but can't find anything about it on their website.

I called Boondockers today to talk to Rocky about their system. He was in 'conference call' and couldn't talk and was supposed to call me back. Never did. Maybe tomorrow? I'll let you guys know what I find out.

Edit: All i know is that SOB is gonna be LOUD, LOUD, LOUD. (No muffler) ;)!

Had a real nice talk with Rocky today. He said their first run of kits are being made right now. They won't be released until they get a production Apex and do final tweaks to the system. The Boondocker control box will handle the fuel system and later they will be coming out with an add on timing control that will work with the control box (Early 06). The turbo system has been tested at 8-15 psi. He said he likes the 12 psi setting the best. There will be room for a short glass pack silencer to keep noise down, and an optional quiet muffler system is in the works to be tested.
The cool thing is that all the stock exhaust system is junked. That means less weight out the back and more track to tunnel clearance. He said add a light weight seat and it really gets lighter out back. The stock oil tank is junked and a new one is placed under the intercooler (where a super charger would sit). Stock battery is used, just relocated. The turbo is not water cooled as mentioned in a post above. It is oil lubricated from a spin on device under the stock oil filter. The simplicity of this kit keeps the cost down.
They are taking deposits now and once all the limited number of first run kits are sold they will produce a second run. So if you don't get one in the first run you might have to wait a little bit. I put my money down on one today, he he hee! ;)!

I too just got off the phone with Rocky and this guy is first class
very informative and straight to the point. ;)!

They tested this system last season and his sled was running
12 & 16lb using Supreme & Mix-110 and all 110 with low comp
pistons and single head gasket only. They will be also selling a
head shim that can be used with a split stock head gasket for
extra safety or they recommend double head gaskets.

System: RX1 or Apex

- Front side mount
- Garrett 25 turbo
- Stainless trick hedder passes under the bulk head right in front of the
chain case so nothing to cause heat problems
- Exhaust exits up front below the turbo through a glass pack
resinator/muffler
- Oil tank and battery fits in a bracket assy and is mounted below the
intercooler in a upright position
- Turbo filter is forward and sits right where the cool air comes
through the hood vents
- Turbo is oil cooled with an adaptor on the oil filter like most other
- Pre set boost @ 8lb with a manual adjust rod (G25 can put out 16lb)
- Electric fuel pump with alluminum Ts for the carbs
- All the hoses, connectors are pre fitted so theres no quessing
very professional job
- Uses stock fuel tank

(Looks like they will be shipping the first run in 6 weeks)

I asked for hp numbers and he wouldn't say, just said that they don't like putting out hp numbers to the public because of too many variables (altitude, etc.) Maybe you got him to talk True Blue?

if they are using the gt25 the hp #s should be very close to the other kits using the same turbo

If they don't want to claim hp at different altitudes why would some one want to buy it until it's proven.

Too much weight in a place where you really do not want it IMO. Thats the nice thing about a rear mount. Remove 21 lb muffler and install 21 lb turbo package. RX1 is too nose heavy to start with. Adding more weight there is not the answer. Not to mention the fact that it will probably be very noisy, and hot. Hope their exhaust manifold lasts. Well, who wants to be the first guinea pig?!!
