Brand new Apex -31c won't start , I got left behind..:(

Maybe a silly suggestion but only time we had a 4 stroke not start in cold was water in gas . But if your riding in those cold temps your probably using gas line antifreeze.
 

got a friend with the same issue. gets below -30 and won't start. up here in the north -30 happens and you still ride. so if you are out at a cabin with no electricity you can't ride till it warms up? my old rx-1 will start at -30. seems like this is an issue
 
My bike would be hard to start in cold temps with the 4 cyl pistons -cams -valves -moving parts -etc etc etc.with a boost it would fire up quicker ! this was a bike (same engine).more to turn than a twin 2-smoke :4STroke:
 
I just picked up a low mileage Apex last spring.
I intentionally left it outside yesterday[its usually in garage] and cold started it this morning as I knew the temp was going down to -35c last night.
The sled did not start easily but it did start. It took multiple attempts, I cranked it for short bursts until it fired then kept cranking it until it ran on its own...I never touched the throttle.

Red Line 0w-40 full synthetic
Lite weight Lythium battery[fully charged]
Premium fuel[87 might have been better for cold start]
PCV with ignition module

I also have an inline heater installed that I will normally use in extreme cold. I did this cold start more to check the lithium battery performance.
 
I have a '13 Apex XTX, with a PCV from Ulmer. Been on since day one, I also have a SledStart. I was up in Old Forge, NY during their "Pond Hockey" tourney. It was -25 F one morning during the week, I started my sled from inside w/ my sledstarter. My cabin buddies weren't laughing when they had to go out and start their sleds. It took on of my buddies with his Ski Doo 800 Rev literally over 40 pulls, as that is when we stopped counting, to start. It was quite comical, as he had to tag someone in to pull as he was getting tired. Was like pulling a motor over filled with molasses. I was told from Ulmer that they do help w/ the cold start issue. Something you may want to talk to him about.

Which battery are you using? And did you have to power it up "wake it" before cranking?

Here's the battery I installed and I did nothing but cycle the key twice before starting.

 
the guy I know has a 2011 apex. he had it at a dealer to check it out and when he got it back it did start the first day. next day wouldn't start. he never had this problem on his 06. was wondering if this is an issue on the newer sleds as I love my old one ton but am looking to upgrade

Why not "0"W or at least "5"W oil, especially judging by where you likely live based on how cold it was this morning?

I have been running 0W-40 Mobil full synthetic and I rarely see the low's you likely see.

Just thinking you should run a lower first numbered oil based on where you live, or do you think it wouldn't make that much of a difference?
 
Starting trouble

I believe starting a Apex in cold weather is a bigger issue then most guys think. I was ridding in a group of three Apex's last winter in Val Dor Quebec. We woke up to minus 35 Celsius and none of the sled would start. That is none of the sleds in out group,but the 4 1200 Doos in the next rooms did.First time I wished i had bought a Doo..lol. One of the sleds in our group was a new apex and the other two where 06's.They all turned over fast but would not start till latter in the day when it warmed up. Here is the kicker....I have a sled start remote system on mine. Next night i programmed my sled to start every time it got to minus 25, it worked my sled started next morning and my buds did not again.....Cold weather and Apex=No Go!!!! :o| :o| :o|

There's your answer Ruso, block heater where you have power, install a Sled Start remote for when you are away or trade the Apex in for a 1200 Doo!
