......holy crap it's fricken cold!!! Anyway, full synthetic oil + 20 series battery, my sled started with no problem what so ever! Just turned the key & held it for a few seconds until I knew there was full ignition & the way she went, never even had to hold the throttle!
I always had hard cold weather starts with my 07 RTX but this thing seems to start way easier ;)!

Just went outside and tried starting my 06 Apex.-29 Celsius here in Regina. After three tries she fired right up.Shut her down after a few minutes and went back inside to play COD :die

Cold weather relay, hmph, wonder if my 06 Attak has that as it starts with no problem & the 07 RTX, if it did start, would backfire & make all kinds of racket before it actually got going, lol!!

Yes, the red one is the solid state relay with no moving parts to freeze. I hear all 2014 fuel injected Yamahas have them.

The original ones had lube on the pivots that would freeze in extreme cold like you get up in the north. It's only -36C tonight and I'm thinking I'll change out my relays tomorrow just in case. Might have to throw a sweater on under the coat.

Ruso,
Although Apex's are 17k, they are not turn key and drive.
There are a few things not correct in dealer supplied form, and a few driving anomolies.

1. Stock sliders will wear out very fast. There is upgrade yamaha sliders called duponts. These last much, much longer.
2. Stock skis are junk and dart to the point of being dangerous. Upgrade tuner skis, or at least dual sliders are a must.
3. Stock fuel pump relays are prone to freezing below minus 20celcius. You should carry a warm spare to change out on cold mornings. (Skidoo had the same problem in 2005 to 2007
But they changed their relays before yamaha.)
4. You must wait about 4 minutes after starting your apex before hitting the throttle. It needs to be fully warmed up.
5. Never do a cold start and shut it off before it is warmed up. It may flood if you do

Other than these few repairable things, the Apex is limitless in the joy it can provide. I have the updates done, and it was flawless. The 2 doos i was with did start, but the etec overheated, and the mach developed flashing engine light.

I don't know about the lube freezing as I've had the relay click and no fuel pump running. I think they get moisture in them.
