The drive shaft on my 07 RTX sheared off this weekend. What is everyone using for a replacement stock OEM or others. :rocks:

That's what I am thinking... I have had the Wahl bros. drivers for the last 6k miles. I had to trim them for the M20 but they are still working andI have no ratcheting. Ulmer's site only lists a Nytro shaft. I emailed Allen this morning.

10 and newer shaft will work, bigger dia. comes with extro drivers, just have to cut it off and rethread

so 2010 and newer apex models shouldn't have the drive shaft problems like the older ones?

Correct. 2010 and up are a larger diameter. As mentioned above a 2010 + shaft will fit in an 06-08 apex if you cut the extension off on the chaincase side. The 09+ chain case covers have a lower bearing in them.

I have a 2010 shaft with extros in stock if anyone needs one. I can cut and tap it out if for an 03-08 sled.

You can move the front arm back 1 inch and you don't have to trim them. That what I did this year when I install my new drive shaft. I purchased the drive shaft from ulmer last fall. I would try call Allen.

Allen replied to my email and has the HD shafts in stock. I assume I would not have to trim it.

Hibshman are your drive shafts new or used and how much $$ ?

I grease the speedo bearing every year and change the chain case fluid as well. I only put on an average of 1k miles per year. The sled has 7200mi which seems a bit low for the shaft failure compared to others. Looks like I have a summer project!

Wonder how much help that extra bearing is? Can a 2010 and up outer chain case housing be installed on 2009 and back?

the 2010 covers will fit the older cases. There are a two things you would have to address if you wanted to do the swap

Starting in 08 the covers also have a 10mm bolt that threads into the tensioner post on case. on a Pre 08 cover you would have to drill and tap the post.

Internally you would have to switch out the aluminum spring retainer on the bottom shaft. This retainer is what seats up in the additional bearing in the case.

6,000 to 9,000 miles is when most break. So I'd say your in the normal range.

My first apex an 06 I got worried and changed the shaft at 18000 miles, I was not broke.
Now I got an 07 and the shaft let go at 8400 miles. The shaft is the only thing with driveing the two apex's for 28600 miles that has left me stranded.

Does how you drive them have anything to do with how long they last??????
