Just out riding, coming up the lake 5500-6000rpm, started vibrating bad, stopped. Looks like I broke a piston. Wrist pin went through the block. No lights or any warning. Had good oil and coolant. What the best thing to do now? Trade or put a motor in?

if the rest of the sled is in good shape and you can find one, then sure it would be worth putting a motor into it.

The sled is in perfect shape, less than 2000 miles. The problem is just finding a good motor. I build motors and am mechanically inclined, but how hard is it to get one these motors out and put one in with all the electrical connections?

which sled. damn 2000 miles and blew engine . that's un characteristic of these 4 strokers

Contact Travis at www.barnofparts.com

If he has an engine it should be a good one as if its not, he won't sell it. I'm sure he will help you with the install too. In a way the process is like replacing a starter right guys?

No lights came on or anything, wasn't even running hard. Just pulled battery out, and there's a big hole in the center of the block. Pulled top part of rod out with wrist pin still intact. Bottom of rod still on the crank, but looks like the center part of rod is gone. Had plenty of oil, no warning it was coming apart.

It was m

It was my Vector

Since 2005 I'll say we've all seen VERY FEW instances of any Yamaha 4s engine grenading. I know this doesn't help but it's the truth. There doesn't seem to be any hidden gremlins in these motors.

Well I have the top part of the rod in my hand, and it is not blue from lack of oil. So I really don't know what to say about it. I've heard nothing but good things about the Yamaha 4 strokes. It is what it is. Don't know why it happened but it broke that rod in two places. Oh well.

I have seen a couple of the carb'd 973cc engines do this. Usually seems to be the center rod, No idea why, but there might be some info around here somewhere. One of the sleds I purchased and resold... It still started, ran, and would drive around.

If Travis doesn't have something, there's a guy in Balstan Spa that parts Yamahas. You can find him on Craig's list.

Sure enough, it was the center and it is carbed. I'll to try a search on and see. Do you know the place in Balstan Spa?

I have never dealt with the guy in Ballston Spa, just figured I mention as he is close. I have dealt w/ Travis, he is excellent, and not too far, right down in PA.
