Hey Guys,

I did a search but I'm having trouble finding info on how to replace the y pipe. Mine seems to have broken right where it starts going into three pipes. It's a very clean break. What would you do in this scenario?

I have already taken my seat off, and I am thinking of going at the gas tank next to get access to the y pipe.

Wondering if this is a replace or repair and if I should attempt this myself. Does anybody have experience in this area?

My sled is an 2008 fx nytro.

Thank you Beartrap. I went ahead and removed the gas tank. Now I'm trying to remove the clamps from the ypipe but my bit is spinning in the head!

I'm almost there though. Thx for the pointers

I think there is an upgrade made with a different alloy as the early ones were brittle. Buy a newer one from one of the wreckers here. What part of Canada are you in?

I'm in Ontario in kawartha lakes area.

See pic attached. I got out the ypipe!!

Looks like the bracket snapped off of it too. Not sure if this is repairable, but you can see the break in the pipe is very smooth. There is also light evidence of the tracks studs scraping the y pipe. Looks like at least a couple of times it scraped it.

Also one of my flex pipes appears to have broke as well.

Had the same thing happen last year, bought a hindle off of Dave a t hurricane. My Y Pipe is good and I'd be willing to let it go if you want another one...off a 2009 xtx. I'm by Beaverton. I might have one good flex pipe too.

Dont forget copper donuts. Your broken hanger would make it much easier to remove than if it wasnt broken. I find it easiest to install the flex pipes after you set the y pipe in place. Others are able to leave the flexpipes in. The y pipe has to be pushed in past the hanger then lift it up then pull it back. And take a real close look at your other flexpipes for cracks too.

Should I replace all the flex pipes since one is broken?

Figure out what it all would cost then decide if you may want to go Hindle and see what that costs. Hindle will be much louder than stock if that is a concern for you. I think I eventually changed all my flexpipes, but I got an awesome deal on new set from a crate engine.

Foes pipes are a wear item....if you don't want to go back into the exhaust for a few years....yes, replace them. They are about $130 each retail.

If you want to hear the hindle you can drop by as well.

Wow I hadn't even thought of how the hanger being broken made my life easy.

It will be interesting putting it back together.... I guess I'll try what you said... Putting the flex pipes on last.

Are there any specific torque requirements that I need to know about for the flex pipes attached to the engine, or the clamps on the flex pipe ypipe connection??

I drilled out the cross piece rivets, put the pipe in and slid the cross piece back so I could put the 2 bolts in, then re-riveted the cross piece back in. I F'd up first and riveted the cross piece first and figured out that wasn't going to work and had to drill them out a second time, this time thru stainless self seal rivets. I'll never make that mistake again!

My spanner is spinning on the bolt that holds the flex pipe to the engine block... This is not good.... I stopped right away once that happened. Any suggestions? Already tried wd40 soaking the bolt over night
