Anyone trail ride a 153" sled? I am thinking of dumping my 14 Viper and my 14 Summit X for a BTX 153. Possibly getting the SE model with 1.75" and purchasing a 3" track to put on when i go out west 1-2 times a year. So if you trail ride with a 153 or have for any length of time let me know.

I do. Its fine. The narrow front end on my 153 mtx viper is the worst part of it.. but I don't mind trail riding it, basically just to get to the play spots.

I am also thinking about this. The trails in Sweden are mostly in very bad shape an the length might be good at floating on top. BTX SE 153 or XTX SE 141 is the question...

I rode quite a bit of trail with my 2.25 153" track and suspension.
Real world is that the length of suspension isn't a "real" concern, it's the lug height. I had issues with lubrication on some icy/hardpack trails....but then I added scratchers, that problem was taken care of. Only other issue I had was riding a good pace on twisty trails with hills, the track would feel wishy-washy on the crests...but this was crests with turns. Again, depends on the lug height.
My sled started out XTX 141 and because I bought rails and a track, I can switch over when I want or know I will be needing it. The XTX has a shorter tunnel so my 153" track was shooting all kinds of stuff out the back. Was nicknamed "shitspreader" on the trails. Speed was no problem as I could still run mid 90's all day long with the 153" 2.25 track...and even managed to wheelie the thing over on me this season with the 153" (No turbo and the pic of the sky was the last thing I saw with my Go-Pro)
So, from having the XTX 141 and going back and forth, my new sidewinder is going to be the BTX 153" with the 1.75 track. From riding 7-10 foot deep powder in Colorado to trails by me and Upper Michigan, I am confident the BTX with the 153" 1.75 track will do me just perfect!

How was the steering effort on the trails, my xtx 141" would either ride to rough and steer lightER or ride soft but steer heavy. Did you change any shocks or springs? (I had the 1.6 studded 3 per rib and Mohawk skis)

Exactly what I was thinking also 153 SE 1.75 back country track, then getting a 3" track to put on it for out west riding. I talked to Yamaha tech guy at show in Milwaukee and he said no problem with the 3" that the BTX has same clearance as MTX and same drivers, he also told me not to touch the clutching, give it time to get broken in. I think I would also put a set of Snow Tracker carbides on it for trail riding.

I had a chance to ride it and the combination is great! The new skis turn very well on the trail and the extra track feels like a 141. I wouldn't hesitate at all! Enjoy

I believe you were asking about my Viper? I didn't change any shocks or spring, just messed around with limiter straps and pressures. Even with the 153 track/rails I could blast through the trails with ease. Now I am a rider that will come into the corner hard, plant the skis, turn and then stab the throttle picking up the skis with how I have the sled set for transfer. My sled feels light in the front end.

I was there in milwaukee also talking with Yamaha's marketing manager.
Yes, you will be pleased with the 153.
The clutching is going to work. The heavier weights, flat profile and roller secondary, I'm pleased with what Yamaha finally changed in their clutching.

Keep in mind guys the BTX 153 & XTX 141 have the mountain spindle/a-arm configuration and you loose travel. Drops from 10" to 7". In the rough this is going to be harsh. I really wanted the XTX LE 141 SW to replace my 14 XTX SE but due to the front end not being suited for rough trail I opted for the LTX LE.

Website and Promo booklet shows XTX SE has 10 front 14 rear travel, I am hoping so as this is what I ordered.

Your absolutely correct, was looking at the XTX LE. SE is the trail front end. I really wanted the QS3 shocks and why I went LTX. They really made things confusing this year
