HOW DID YOU CLOSE OFF THE TUNNEL , THINKING WHY WOULDN'T YOU. JUST A MESS WITH ALL THE SNOW AND MUD UNDER YOU SEAT AND EXHAUST?

Used a pcs of cardboard and made a template, cut a pcs. of aluminium sheet .025 thick, could be a tad thicker not much it was hard to put in without removing the header pipe. A little silicone and a few pop rivits should hold it in place. I still don't know if the silencer will get to hot and melt the plastic, haven't had a chance to try it yet. I think thats why they left it open to cool the exhaust, but all the ice was way to much trouble. posted more pics if that helps.

What I said, too.

I finally got a chance to work on the Akrapovic stuff, using a 2008 RTX for prototyping. Single unit titanium pipe and carbon silencer, from a 06-07 Honda CBR1000. Now chopped up, shortened and re-angled. 1.635 kg (3.6 lbs) including all brackets and mounting hardware....Now I just need to shape up my titanium welding skills since I do not think the tape will withstand the heat...

To people new to carbon silencers, you have to keep them seviced. (fresh packing) or they will burn through. They look sweet but they are nowhere as tough as titainum or aluminum.

I second that ! Burned an R1 Muzzy carbon pipe up on the National series Dynojet Dyno a few years ago. Man, was I #$%&* ed !!!

My jardine c/f pipe on my zx10 has 7000 miles on it and I haven't touched it.

And I wouldn't touch it if I were you either, they get very brittle when the packing burns up. I'd be ordering a packing kit from Parts Unlimited ASAP.

How ofen do you use all the power that your ZX10 puts out? unless you on a closed course where you you can make the bike work hard, you probably won't burn the packing out. this is not a poke at your riding ability. (how offen and how long can you put serious strain on a 1000cc sport bike on the street?) A sled is almost always working the engine hard. a lot more wieght and drag. thus way more heat and if you like rough trails, the vibrations and shaking from hard hits (landings).

That also depends on the jetting you are running and the quality of the packing material you are using. I have had streetbikes with top level Akrapovic and Termignoni exhausts. Upon inspection, the packing material as well as the carbon silencers were like new, also after 10.000 kilometers.
