I'm considering removing stock muffler with the attached single 3" oval pipe back to the wye pipe . using the picture of the Ultra-Q silencer, i might run 2- 1-1/2" or 1-3/4" pipes back to atwin inlet ,twin outlet Dynomax Ultra-Flo X muffler. I might drill many 1/4" holes in both twin inlet pipes ,then wrap with fiberglass blanket followed by a wrap of Silent Sport long strand muffler packing rated @ 1300 deg. Then enclose this with outer shell of ss steel or mild steel to create 2 long glass-packs leading into the new high flo muffler. This would basically still be a straight - thru design. See pic of muffler on Jegs website. Of coarse i would re-fab the body panels to look good. Any sense in this? would changing exhaust require re-programming ecu? There is also a cool website called "Muffle Your Vance & Hines Baggers" on homemade silencers.

Sounds like a good idea, I didn't really think about building a glass pack might be worth looking into. Thanks for mentioning Jegs between that and JC Whitney should be a few good places to start. I am thinking of going with the one Edge_Kw is using. http://www.flopro.com/GlassPack.htm third one from the top, part number 3012.

You can get the glass pack at NAPA.
It is a 3" OD Hush Thrush.
Will get the NAPA part number and post it.

Here is mine,
I used a 4" Summit Racing Glasspack and a 2.25" down turn.

I welded the glasspack to the stock Y from my stock exhaust. There were some other modifications involved.

Here are some pics

I still need to attach the rear muff support. It will be covered with the new pc of alum that will cover the whole the muffler sat in.
The hardest part for me is going to be making the rear seat support. I am goint to leave the rear of the sled open so I want to make it look nice. Mabey some powder coating will be in order.

This is a little on the loud side. Once it gets into the pow it will be quieter.

Hey Frog!

Looks good!
Post a pic of your rear muffler mount! Like to see it.
You may still want a baffle yet, mine droned without it and got very tiring while riding.

Posted pics of my seat mounts.
Kinda rough, but they do the job!

You could do a seat mount from the same two spots but make it up, over and back down and have them welded and powder coated.
Would look really good and be tough!

Looking forward to seeing it in Muni and to Boondocking!!!
Can't wait!!! ;)!
