Up to 2011 , all stock Apex motors are designed to run on 87 octane fuel. There are numerous posts on this subject. Without serious modifications, i.e. Turbo or supercharger, higher compression pistons, he'd be wasting money and power. Might not want to start to well either lol.

Again, why would you? He'd be LOSING performance , starting properly, and if they are race fuels, possibly lead fouling the spark plugs. There are absolutely NO advantages unless the motor has been modified . Ulmer posted dyno sheets showing a significant loss of power running 93, so anything higher would be even worse!

Yes you can run race gas in your stocker and yes you will lose some power. Sure smells cool though!

Would it help to know that higher octane fuels burn COOLER then lower octane fuels. So when a motor is set up for 87 it will not be able to burn all the race fuel, it will lose power and like others are stating it will possibly be hard to start, foul plugs, etc. Conversely when a motor is set up for high octane, its because it runs so hot it needs the cooler burning fuel to keep the motor from getting hot and blowing apart.
I'm glossing over a ton of technical details but this may help it make sense to your friend. His motor is set up for the hottest burning fuel 87 octane, run that.

It's seems very hard for some folk to get over the fact that Higher Octane does not equal more power. As stated above, you buy what your engine is tuned for.
