Looking to potentially buy my first sled soon and came across this one that is being auctioned off but I don't see a model name on it. I really know nothing about sleds in general and some of the older Yamahas all kind of look the same to me. In the end I'm just looking for a reliable trail cruiser and if this one checks out it might be a candidate. While I know used/older sleds have wear items that do break down over time, I don't want to spend more time wrenching on something than driving it.

Thanks!

I'd say an 08 Apex 4 cyl, but possibly a 08 Vector GT 3 cyl, hard to tell. looks like RH ski is mangled on the outside

And this would be a great trail cruiser either Apex or Vector, and a fantastic first sled for you imo.

maybe a 09 RTX

I think 08 too my guess is vector because it don't mention efi on sticker. Either way great sled. Apex efi vector would be carb still I am pretty sure

If the side panel was off I could tell you . looking through the vent in the side panel looks more like a Apex oil tank . I think the ski is just up on the Dollie . It looks to be in ok shape ! If it's a good price go for it.

Come to think about it my 2008 Vector had graphics like that but Blue in color. There changed to Graphic's kit now . I think the Air box cover looks more like an Apex too.

2008 Apex or Vector. If you could get a picture of the rear the tail pipe covers will say "Apex" or "Vector". I'd want to know which one it is due to some significant engine differences between the two.

Yup, would agree looks in decent shape, the RH ski (sitting on the sled) has a chunk missing below the ski pivot, easy to find used skis and likely not a show stopper to ride it like that. It would be handy if it were and Apex for the FI vs carbs I agree. GYTR's are an excellent upgrade as well. Good luck on the acquisition!

As you said, " I don't want to spend more time wrenching something than driving it", then you might want to look at a different sled. Either engine 3 or 4 cylinder is great, but the rest of the sled is a constant maintenance project in my experience. Fortunately, I enjoy wrenching on my sleds, so it's not an issue for me. That way you get to know how everything operates and repair trailside if need be. Any sled is nothing more than one big wear part, but the delta and delta II chases are the major weak spot. Too much sled for your very first one imho, unless you like fixing them yourself. PS, I'm not bashing Yammis, so please, I did not intend to start a posting tirade.

Graphics are 2008. The black tunnel and GYTR shocks would mean its a GT. Like DGZRT said it looks like an Apex oil tank peaking thru the vent.
A picture from the rear would make it easier to distinguish between an Apex or Vector. Apex exhaust in that year is tunnel width apart on the outside of the seat and the Vector exhaust basically tucks in behind the seat.
Either way the Vector or Apex are great reliable trail machines. Judging by the handguards with mirrors and the saddle bags this was used as a longer trip trail machine.
With any used machine you can expect to drop some brown ones to get it in tip top shape. Higher mileage Delta II chassis need the front bushings replaced. There is also the regular wear items such as sliders, carbides, drive bearings, wheels and exhaust donuts that may need attention. Who knows maybe the previous owner took care of all that or it has very low miles and there will be nothing to do but gas and go.

It has apex air box lid, apex upper a arms, and 08 graphics. My guess is base model 08 apex with a set of GYTR shocks from a GT model.

Any sled is high maintenance. No matter what name is on it. The higher the miles the more possible maintenance there is. I know of people that have over 10k on their sled and never changed a wheel or bearing. Not saying that the sled may need some attention but it has never died on them so they just keep adding gas and drive.
Bottom line it depends on what type of person you are. Gas n go or a grease monkey.
I fall into the grease monkey type as I spend many evenings wrenching on my sled. Its not that I have to but its because I want to. I know without a doubt I have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more hours riding my sled than wrenching on it.

Travis , what's different on the upper "A" arms ?
