Would you lend out your sled?

2/3 of the miles on my wifes Vector last year were put on by friends of mine.

I guess that answers your question.

I think the key to all of this is wether or not the person you would be loaning the sled to would appreciate it. In my eye's if someone used on of my (insert anything) and was unable to afford repairs should something happen I would expect them to be extra careful and not do anything outside of what would be considered expected use. Now if I borrowed something and it was damaged I would certainly first try to repair/fix the problem, if it were something major that I couldn't afford, (engine overhaul or something) I would at least offer to put as much toward as I could with future payments to come, also I would help in any way possible with the repairs.
If I don't feel the borrower would think about the item the way I just described then I would likely not loan the item out. Money, isn't the issue respect and appreciation is. Although if it is your only sled, you can't be pissed if it gets damaged and your out for the season, as you loaned your only sled. If you can't live without it I wouldn't loan it either.

General rules:

(We go over these up front.)
They are riding my back-up sled, not mine.
They break it, they buy/fix it.
They ride with me.
They ride behind me.
They are FULLY expected to be courteous to others. (yes, it's a rule. lol)
I set the rules, Speed, technique, treatment of equipment, courtesy to others, etc.
They kill it, they buy it.
Find something later, they help fix it.

YEP! well said ;)!

We have a couple back up sleds that we let friends use. You break it, you fix it, if you won't fix it then you'll never use any of my stuff again. Stuff breaks all the time, sometimes it breaks for almost no reason it seems like. But everyone should know that before they borrow something. I will not borrow our newer more expensive sleds out. They just cost too much to fix...and the season is too short to not have a sled because somebody else wrecked it for you. I want to wreck my own sled, and I don't really want to ride the pink 199? polaris xcr 440 any more than I have to!

If you loose a friend because you wouldn't loan him/her your sled. Well, they weren't much of a friend to begin with.

PS NOS-PRO, I would have been pissed!

Rock, I still am!

And when he/she found out about the damage, never once did he/she offer to pay for the damages and said it must have been that way before he/she rode it.

No longer friends and all the help I did for this person to get f$%^& in the end has made me an #*$&@ to some that don't know the full story, just the lies told from the person that used my sled.

The good friends I have made on this site know me and know how I am.....

Yeah, some of us are still friends. even when one LAWN DARTS the others sled, right Terry?? Been a while since that happened and I am STILL embaressed about it :hide:

It would be a case by case scenario for me. One thing I would look for is how does a person take care of their own sled? Kind of like that old Seinfeld episode were Elaine is screening her dates by asking herself if a guy is "sponge worthy" LOL.

Sorry, no pics, that I KNOW od LOL. Nospro let me borrow his NEW Attak after I spit a rear idler off my Viper. 1st time on a 4 stroke off trail and 1st 100 ft OFF of the trail. Rolled into a little depression, pop the throttle up the other side. Launched great and tapped the brakes to level out, just like I do on the Viper. Next thing I know I am pointed STRAIGHT DOWN!! I landed butt down with my back to the sled. Did NOT want to turn around!! Discovered all I had done was push his CSS Traillight forward in its mount. WHEW!! He, and everyone else, laughed for quite a while.

:jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump:

Never love something that can't love you back.....! ( a rule I live by)

I lent my sled to my buddy last season to go for a 2 day 600 mile ride. No problem. I never even laid out the ground rules. He's my oldest friend so a bent up sled would never come between us as long as nobody gets hurt. If you have to ask yourself a bunch of questions then you're probably not lending it to the right person and you better hope nothing goes wrong.

PS. My sled came back in the same condition as it left.
