How are these motors being that they are carb'd. I feel like its buying a old technology since efi has been out for a while. I have no doubt it makes plenty of power... but how consistant is it day to day, or even year to year. Do you have to play with the carb's every season to set them up or jsut put the fuel stabilizer in the sled every year and it works ?? Also there are 3 carb's to tune and to sync, not jsut one. I'm not bashing, jsut concerned because I love efi and how consistant motors run with it

I've never touched my carbs in three seasons. They have given me no troubles. I do wish my sled was injected though.

wish in one hand...

You still have to sync EFI snowmobiles and motorcycles. Also if a snowmobile EFI is the same as a motorcycles EFI it uses the same map that has to be reprogrammed to make changes for weather and conditions to get MAX power. The same as a carb rejetting. In other words the map is a controlled amount of fuel and ignition at a certain RPM and doesn't change regradless of weather or load.

Yamahas are usually set-up from the factory rich that way when it gets cooler it doesn't lean out too much. THis is noticable on a bike when you ride on a 90 degree day you feel like the bike is weak on poor but at 30 degrees it feels like an extra 10 hp.

I havn't had any problems with my carbs, I always run Staybil in any of my engines that will be setting for longer than a mounth.

Ive road at -25 always started for me. When people start asking about no pull rope, I always ask, do you have a crank for your car?

In defense of carbs, which would you rather fix? i don't know what engines/sleds you are used to living with, but these engines start easily with no fuss. consistant running regardless of temps. these 4s have much smaller jets so remember to stabilize gas before storage (not going to run for 30 days or more) and drain the bowls, which is fairly easy to access. For cold starts i crank engine, then choke. it doesn't take much. Is EFI nice? Yes, but i wouldn't NOT buy because of carbs.

I agree. My carbs work fine. Personally, the way things have been going with this sled, I wouldn't expect to ever have to do much engine work other than maintenance items as this sled has been very trouble free. However, while EFI sounds scary when you think about having to work on it, chances are you would never need to. One less thing to worry about.

Anybody ever try putting EFI on a carb model. What would you need to change. The wiring harness and add throttle bodies??

Ive had to clean my carbs a few times but it wasnt bad. I kniw theres different summer storage theories and preferences but first year i used sea foam and would start sled every month and sping the track fir a minute or two. Winter came sled ran awesome. Following season i did same but i didnt start sled during summer and my carbs were all plugged. I cleaned them twice and ran fine after than. I dont mind working on my sled so i bought the morgan carb tune and the carbs were out of sync even though sled ran great. So i synced them which wasnt to hard and sled runs extra smooth. Ive never han efi but having carbs isnt a big deal to me. Like any hobby/toy if you take care of your things youll always be happy. Ive never had any starting issues either.
