Cat Sold

Artic Cat make Yamaha great again!

Pulled from Country Cats Facebook page. If their renderings are accurate, seems like the 998 lives on! Also looks like you can get EPS on the two-stroke 858 EXT Special for 2026, pretty cool! And thats the best looking Thunder Cat I've ever seen I might add.

I like that EXT.
I am already wondering about a retrofit for the front shock on old ATAC/IQs systems

Although I am not in the market for a two stroke I really like that EXT ! It brings back memories of the first time I saw a 1971 EXT at the local oval races back in the day...:)

Actually the 7000 and 9000 live on and model line grows by 1. They actually are adding a Pantera 9000 because (according to Troy Halverson, Snowmobile Group Manager in an article I read) they decided to pick up this touring combo after Yamaha left the market replacing the Sidewinder S-TX GT. So they will offer a 137” ZR 7000, Pantera 7000, Thundercat 9000 137”, Riot 9000 146”, and a Pantera 9000.

Something else to remember is Brad Darling the new CEO was also the person responsible for putting together the original SRViper/7000 joint venture back in the day. There is even a SnowTrax interview from 2016 still on YouTube with Brad from AC and Pete from Yamaha discussing the joint venture. Now people change and companies change direction, but the new CEO does have a history with Yamaha and according to the articles I have read about the 2026 line-up they understand the draw of offering Yamaha 4 strokes. There is definitely a market there that would create ROI on investment in this segment.

I rode a 2024 Riot 600 all winter and the Catalyst chassis is excellent. It would be nice to see modifications made to it so they can continue to use the Yamaha 4 stroke engines. Either that or an updated Procross bringing some of the ergonomics of the Catalyst sled to the 4 stroke line.

I'm curious as to how they are going to fit the stepper module in there. Not a lot of room.

And I believe there is functionality in the control unit. They put pin blockers in there so someone should be able to create a harness and run the line to the shock.

If nothing else, just run it off the rear shock signal.

Man, they seemed to be going in the right direction, working TOGETHER at that point. Those two seemed to really respect each other in that interview.
Imagine if Textron had continued that good will towards Yamaha. Where could they both be NOW.
