I was having trouble putting the sled into reverse and dicovered the bottom linkage was hitting the toe kick plate. I later discovered that the chain case lube was low and while doing other repairs found a crack around the drain plug. I must have ran over a rock and the plastic under panel obviously isn't enough protection for the the magnesium case. I probably could get away with a JB-weld repair for now but has anyone successfully welded the magnesium chain case? If anyone has one for sale let me know.

I just checked the price on a new housing. $122 plus shipping which is a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. I think I'll try to fabricate some sort of guard to protect the case better.

Hi Grizz
Are you positive it's mag? I'm thinkin it's cast AL.

If you look at the top picture, just below the brake rotor it says "magnesium" so I'm assuming it is. I know it can be TIG welded much like aluminum but I've never tried welding magnesium and I'm not sure who can do it in my area.

Just sent you a PM with tig details. Personally I'd pop for a new one.

That blows. Someone that fixes boat props will know how to tig Magnesium. Im guessing its a lot like aluminum.

$122.00 seems reasonable for that part. I cant imagine any tig welder firiing up his rig for less than 60 bucks.

Yea, I'm thinking it's actually a magnesium alloyed aluminum. I'm looking for someone in my area that can repair it so I can continue to ride. I'll probably order a new case at that price but didn't want to waste time waiting for it to arrive. The season is short enough.

Yes, it can be welded by someone in the know. I successfully had the internal chain tensioner pin welded a few years ago on my RX. The nytro case appears to be similar.
