Changing the chain case oil. I read a post on different oils that can be used. I was planning on trans oil but thought I'd check first. It's been a while since I read it.

I have heard of people running Trans Fluid but I'd like to hear from some of them who have ran it for 10,000 miles or more in the same sled?

Personally, I run Mobil-1 75-90 synthetic gear oil and have for years with out issue but I do change it out "Every year" regardless of miles.

I'm not saying that trans oil won't work, but it is not as high in the lubrication properties, so I would not run it. JMO

Trans fluid is popular more among the race people, Less oil viscosity less drag on the rotating gears chain, How ever they change gears/ and oil very frequently and only run for short periods of time. If your sled is going to see trail duty or long runs then run a 75-90 synthetic oil in your chain case.

i have always ran co-op 75-90 full synthetic, with a half ounce power-up "gearmax" wouldnt believe how much cooler the case runs with power-up in it.

Never heard of it before, is it a Farm type oil?

powerup is an oil additive that changes the viscosity and oiling capabilites. hydro-max, gear max, and engine max. we run in everything, keeps oil from frothing or foaming, and in our tractors and semi's reduced oil temp by 15degrees celcius. our phazer used to have a loud howl from the gear reduction in the motor, 5 minutes after adding engine max it was quiet.

I ran Amsoil Series 2000 Chain case lube, not sure what weight it is, don't care quite frankly as it worked. 7000 miles, not one issue and very little wear. Should be able to get it at your dealer or online. I would change it the beginning of the season, and often mid season or before a "Big" trip. With the amount of expense that one can be subjected to should a chain case fail, I would advise using something rated for that purpose. Any oil may work, heck corn oil may work but I just never wanted to "test" those theory's out.

X2 Amsoil Series 2000.

It might just be my supercharged sled is hard on stuff or I may have a issue but it will break down any gear fluid I put in it, during the year. First time I used cheap synthetic gear lube no name stuff. 2nd year it was Amsoil gear lube, same result.

I will never put anything but gear lube my chain case now.

On a stock sled 150hp or less you should be able to get by with less. On a modded sled that picks the skis up at will from POWER and not suspension settings it adds a lot of heat to that poor chain!

Oh an NEVER use any chain but OEM yamaha.

Amsoil gear lube 75/90. Got the advice here on TY. Hasn't failed me yet! I believe gear oil is heavier duty than chain case oil.
