What kind of chain case oil should I use? Also how often should I change it?

I am been using Amsoil Gear Lube in my chaincase. Its synthetic.

Good product and seems to hold up well. Also coats all the parts well, even after sitting for months.

I wont use normal 90 gear oil again.

I have used the amsoil, but now I usually just grab some yamalube chain case oil when I'm in to see my dealer, all depends on how much you ride, but normally change it once a year.

How do you change the chain case oil? I took the exhaust off, what next?

You have to pull the cover off, there is a detailed how to in the FAQ section. Good to do it at the same time you change the engine oil. It's a pain in the #*$&@, but if you do it once a year at oil change time not such a big deal, and it lets you do a chain case inspection at the same time.

i use a small hand pump and pull the oil out. this was you don't have to mess with taking the case apart.

The pump?

Then one I use is for taking oil samples. I'll take a pic of it.

Could you post a pic or the brand and model number if possible please, I'm having a hell of a time finding one. Thanks

If you have a West Marine or similar type store near you, they should have a pump. I have one that is primarily used to change the oil in my boat motors. Something like this Model # 11097714 should work for you.

Nothing special. Austin powers penis pump.

But this is not my penis pump baby.

For first change I would also do the pump and did but after that I recommend getting familiar with the inside of your chaincase. Yearly.

I use any good quality gear oil and change it every season.
From what i have read, it seems that lots of people are sucking out the oil with good success.

Personally, i prefer to remove the cover disassemble most of it (within reason)and clean out all the shavings and crap that the magnets catch. Check out my chain and gears and Give everything a good looking over and reassemble
Im sure its overkill but knowing i did the best service i could gives me peace of mind and thats important to me.
I change out all driveline bearings every other year, and regrease them between changes. Again, i know its overkill
But overkill is a great thing when your ocd. Lol

Thanks, for sure yearly I go into the chain case and inspect and clean, it's just handier through the season to do a quick freshen up of the oil with a pump. I hate loosening the bolts a couple turns to drain and risk a leak.
Thanks again I'm gonna hunt down one of those pumps but not the penis pump LOL!
