2010 RS VECTOR GT LTX STOCK FOR NOW!
Hello guys i have searched high and low on the site and looked thru my manual i cant get my chain case cover off!!!!! i pulled out the set screw on the locking collar on the jack shaft and removed all the cover bolts and i can only get the cover to slide out 1/4 inch. i have reverse and i took off the linkage so i dont know what i may be missing? as usual thanks for all the help ahead of time i figured suggestions are in order.

thanks jdp

Rotate the reverse shaft, where it enters the chaincase, clockwise. This will lift the prongs that engage the lower gear.

Thanks do i leave it or just do that to slide it off and then return it back to the regular position?

Rotate it to remove, once you get it apart it won't matter. You'll see what I mean. When you put it back together make sure the prongs come in from the top

If you have reverse did you remove the little bolt in the center of the case that holds the reverse gear shaft in alignment?

yox185 to funny, I have an 03 rx1 without reverse whats the best way to remove and clean? Also my buddy told me to clean with brake cleaner spray down let dry then put back on and fill?? sound right to you?

Drain from the bottom, the drain is inside the tunnel directly under the case (12mm bolt). If the sled doesn't have a ton of miles or the old lube looks decent just refill. If the lube looks bad or if you just really want to clean it good, remove the cover bolts and clean her out. I don't really think brake cleaner is needed, most of the crud settles. Also beware that brake cleaner can eat plastics and rubber, the non-chlorinated is less caustic.

Just remember when assembling the reverse model the pins slide into the sheave properly, the case will seat all the way against the gasket without forcing it.

Mikeinchicago I would recommend filling it with atf, driving it for 10-20 min and draining again, do this a couple times and it will be all cleaned out. Gear lube leaves allot to be desired as far a keeping things clean.

any tricks to getting the reverse pins back properly so it goes together smooth!

thanks jdp

Best trick I did on the recent chaincase removal was use heavy duty zip ties and as the gears and washers, and spacer come off just thread them right on to the zip tie (or wire what ever) then set it aside and do your maint, then when its time to assemble it all goes smooth and your not spending 4hrs looking at the microfiche trying to figure out where all the spacers go! I had 3 'assemblies' of zip ties one for outside after the brake was removed, then 1 for the top gear and 1 for the bottom gear the reverse gear is pretty easy to leave alone.

I disconnected the linkage at the top where that one bolt connects to the bronze plate, then I could manipulate the reverse forks back on as you slide the cover on. Its pretty easy after you do it once.

jdp1under: Try looking in to the chaincase from the top as you slide the cover on. You should be able to see the fork as it meshes with the groove it sits in.
