Been out of the loop for awhile. Was an active participant with the original chaincase tension issue and was one that still believes to this day to back it off a 1/4 turn is too friggin tight. I think I settled on 1.5 turns to reduce the decel howl.
Sometime after that I was at the local Yamaha shop (not saying where) and the service manage at the time was totally oblivious to that perhaps the manual was wrong. He advised going back to 1/4 turn from hand tight. I disregarded this advice.
Anyways, im going to avoid the winter rush and bring my sled in for the two recalls here soon.(reverse thing and fuel hose clamp) and hope the flash comes in during its stay in the shop. While I am at it, I am going to have them change the chaincase fluid. My guess is they will adjust it.
Has Yamaha officially acknowledged the manual is wrong since then or are we- that- don't- follow- it the foolish ones? Sometimes new information surfaces over a period of time.
I either want to specify a chain tension to them or tell them not to mess with it.

Well I just pulled my cover and the task seemed at first very daunting but I was pleasantly surprised that it was rather easy to do!!! And at 2400 miles very little metal on the magnets!!
So on a side note it is official that it's finger tight and back off 1.5 turns? Wanna make sure it's properly adjusted when I reassemble!

The other thing confirmed at the Yamaha tech classes was the continued absence of a chain case drain.X2 this was said in the tech update we attended this week.

If you had that a part you must have noticed that bolt isn't an adjuster more over something for the chain to ride if the auto adjustment spring breaks.
If it's apart take a look at the top drive chain gear. Take chain off and put gear back on. See if it wiggles on shaft. I believe they have the issue fixed on our sleds but still see it on older cats.

Thanks for the pic Racin.
Question. What type of seal is on the chain case. RTV or a gasket.
I want to change my oil but not sure if I can suck the oil out. I have a small syphon hose electric pump I use to suck oil out of my sea doo through the dipstick tube. Or pull the cover to change the oil.
You can vacuum it out. Taking it apart is always the best route to check things over. The cover ears where screws are in is very fragile though.

Larry the cover has a very small gasket that is in the cover. Also I used a hand mityvac to syphon it out at 500 mile, but now at 2400 needed to pull the cover to check every thing over... all looks well on mine[emoji106]Thanks for the pic Racin.
