|Checking oil procedure

Hi Guys. I took the sled 03 RX1 in for a service, they changed all fluids and replaced the battery I guess the old one wasn't holding a good charge. So far so good, I ran 30 km in -10C weather no problems with warning lights etc. In fact I had my wife on the back!
This begs another question, I know the sled isn't designed for two up but could I damage anything riding two up?
Now she wants her own!

Cheers Rob

I forgot to mention the mechanic said the doughnuts will probably want replacing at some point, probably next season, for now I'm just going to run it.

Cheers Rob

You better tell her the sled can't take to up riding, she has to get one for herself :)

Just kidding, the sled is capable for 2-up riding, for two People of average weight.

Been there done that. Girlfriend went through 5 sleds until we landed on a Phazer Mountain. EASY to ride. Got her on a Viper this year though.

If it's within 15% highest to lowest Reading you're ok. Low Readings may be due to wrong procedure or the compression tester itself.
With Readings almost even across the compression is most likely within spec.

altitude and temperature also have a huge impact in the actual number, which is one more reason why the difference is far more important.

Great info guys. I have one of the 03' s that burn oil and it does bother me. Not enough to spend the time and money to rering it though. I have tried everything from sea foam to ring free just in case i was one of the lucky ones but nothing worked. I just did a 240 mile ride the other day and the sled used 3/4 of a liter. Did some hard riding though, if it wasn't a long high speed run for 15 to 20 km it was boodocking in the deep powder. Maybe that contributed, I don't know or maybe the 15500 miles has something to do with it. Either way I just keep adding oil. It has been like this for the last 5000 miles since I bought it. At least I know it always has fresh oil in it. I never new about the only fill it to half, or the waiting for 5 minutes to check the oil after the engine is shut off and am wondering if I have maybe been over filling it by the time I add the oil and the stuff in the engine drains back. I will be more cautious next time. Kinda curious as to why the engine will burn more oil if the tank is over filled. Does it actually burn it or does it just loose it some where.
One thing I will say about my RX1 is that it fits me perfect. With all the mods I did to it I prefer driving it to my wife's attack. I even took a 2011 nytro for a spin the other day and I still prefer my RX1. They are both are great sleds but my sled is set up th way I like it and I am used to it and it is in awesome shape. It might sound crazy but if the motor ever did go down for some reason I would seriously consider replaceing it with another. Hopefully with one that doesn't bun oil though. LOL
