Clutch adjustment

I was told to stop the belt squeel is to replace the belt which I have done that but I still have a squeel. I understand there are adjustment washers that you can add to or remove on the clutch remove. Where are they?

Can anyone help?

The washers to adjust belt ride height are on the three bolts located on the backside of the secondary clutch. Remove washers to open the secondary sheaves and lower the belt in the clutch. The adjustment washers come in .5 and 1.0 millimeters and are item number 9 on the attached picture.

Thanks for the help. I am in a rural area and the dealer authorized a guy out here to do the work here. I thought that # 9 washers were the right ones but he insisted on removing the #20 washer instead. I appreciate the help I will have to contact the dealer tomorrow morning first thing.

Again I really apreciate the help, it's good to have guys like you on the forum to help out. The dealers aren't much.
 
Mine is still doing it and I put the .5 washers in. I think it can be caused by misalignment as well. I have tried some more shims to reduce the float on the shaft and will also try running no washers.
 
alinement

just buy or make up some aliment gage,s. it will take the guess ork out of alinement and they will let you see how far out things realy can get. like the paralizem- center to center and off set. these gages are readly avlable. these may be the best invstment in perforemance you can make. remember that all of the power you make has to go throut the clutches on its way to the track if the alinement is out even just a liitle it will scrube a lot of power off ;)!

I can attest to that! After finding my alignment was out I gained 11 MPH on the Top End! From 112 MPH to 123 MPH on the speedo ;)! :shock:

If the alignment was off, he might have done the right thing by removing the #20 washer. Typically the squeel is caused by too tight of a belt and you need to either remove or use a narrower #9 washer. As the belt wears and becomes narrower, you will probably need to reinstall the washers.
As others have said, you need both the center to center, and the offset measurements checked (alignment).
 
What's the torque spec for the secondary retaining bolt? Is it the same for the RX series sleds as the RS series?
 
Squeal

Thanks again guys for all the help although Black John lost me I must admit. No fault of his I am just relatively new at snowmobiles but now that I am in it I like it. Except for the fact I have only a little over 100 miles on the sled and already having to make adjustments.

I will probably start a new forum on what tools should I buy?
 
Tfin: What's the torque spec for the secondary retaining bolt?

46 foot pounds (64 Nm) of torque according to Yamaha service manual.
