Clutch and crankshaft question

If I turn the primary clutch there is a little play before it feels like the crank starts turning. I have looked and it is not the clutch turning on the shaft.
Is this normal? What could it be if not?

In the 4 holers, there is a reduction gear that connects the engine to the primary clutch. There may be a little play because of this, but should be very minimal.

There is about 1/8" of play
