Clutch kit? New Muffler??

I have added 26" mud lites to my 04 grizzley. I am wondering if it is worth it to have some clutch work done and to change out the stock muffler to an aftermarket one. I am told I can gain another 7-8 more ponys with the new pipe and the clutch kit will really help me out with low end bog. The "hole shot" kit and the new muffler would run me about $375 installed. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this?

I have done the same with my 2004 Grizz. I added 26" Mudlites with Type 5 rims and am thinking the same as you. I am also looking for input on a slip on pipe. I would like to know how the HMF Ecosystem working out for those that have installed them?

How do you like the Mudlites? I haven't really had the time to try mine out much. Planning a trip for the end of April. Hope to get in to some mud.

The new rims and tires are great. I put about 650 miles on them last summer. I found they really do make a difference. The only thing is with the group I ride with alot, I am the only one with the big tires so I get to hit the mud pits first to see if I can get thru. If I can't they don't even bother to try. They also ride polaris so they are already a little handicaped!! Those are also the best photo ops. (pulling the Polaris's out of the mud with the Yamaha) I did lose a little top end speed and I do get some of that low end "bog" and so that is why I am looking to upgrade the clutch and do what I can to increase the horsepower, but I need to do it with out sinking a ton of money into it.

I would just do a new pipe ,k&n air filter and rejet the carb. That should get rid of your low end bog ;)!

Heres a little test I did last year. Also, by adding the bigger tires you are definetely going to loose performance. If anything at least go to lighter clutch weights and a stiffer secondary spring. The Dalton kit works nice as does the EPI kit for bigger tires. Let me know if you are interested. I can get you some pricing. Heres my write up from last year

Matt, Have you ever tried just putting a 1 1/2" outlet on the stock muffler and drilling 8 or 10, 3/8" holes in the stock baffle? I have heard that it works as well as a slip on. What would it cost me for the HMF and clutch kit? I picked up an 05' Griz and have 26" mud lights. It seems pretty doggy on the bottom with the big tires and the stock muffler sounds pretty sickly. I don't want to make it loud, just throatier, if that's even a word.lol

Hey, the Dalton kit is $83 and the HMF Ecosystem slip on is $279 plus shipping. I have drilled out my stock exhaust and only noticed it to be louder, never found any gains.

If your familiar with snowmobiles and how well a good clutch kit works, the ATV end is much different. You dont see nearly the gains you do by add ons with ATVs. It takes alot of mods to get small gains. Whats killing you is the tires. The difference between Mr. Sleds Grizz with his 26" mud lites and all the mods we did to it, then putting on my stock tires with itp c series wheels was 6 MPH

Somewhere on this site I wrote up a break down of the extra rolling weight by adding bigger tires. Ill find the link and post it.

Summary, the clutching and ecosystem will help, but will still not get it to where it was with the stock tires. I just like to warn guys.

The EPI is a better kit with the wet clutch springs....with the Slip on and K&N it works pretty good on my machine. But the gains from the pipe are hardly worth it for the price.

As sleddy notes, the EPI kit has a set of springs you replace in your wet clutch that raise engagement. Thats all they do however. The kit is about $40 more and also comes with a secondary spring and ligthter clutch weights. The wet clutch springs are a job putting in and would not attempt unless you are mechanical...BBY

What kind of job is it to change the springs in the wet clutch? I'm new to this atv thing and haven't had the need to really tear into this thing yet. Only have about 70 miles so far. I had visions of running this thing stock, but should have known better. :ORC I guess it's going to be just like the sleds, stock just ain't good enough. ;)!

Tom, how does the Grizz sound with the slip on? Stock sound is pathetic, but I don't want it real loud.

Sounds awesome with the slip on really throaty...as far as the wet springs, best to do it when you change the oil. You will have to pull the clutch covers and the case cover under that....I may even have some pics in the TY Tech, under ATVs

what is the difference between the hmf eco system and a regular slip on by HMF. I have noticed on most forum that have grizzly owners on them talk of hmf for there grizzly and how nice they are so I ordered one for my 2005 should I have got hmf ecosystem what is the difference , will the HMF that I ordered be just as good as the ecosystem? is it louder, more gains, what can I expect?
is there anyone out there that has the slop-on HMF (NOT THE ECO) on the grizz? tell me a little about what you like or dislike please.
