What should I be running for weights out in jackson? I'm running a 18 tooth top gear and 39 tooth bottom on a 153 if that makes any differance. Also have a Fix Power Sports clutch kit and I dont know what they did as far as weight or springs go. Went out to the Snowys last year and it would only hit about 8000-8100 rpm.

weights

I dont know much about clutching yet, so what would 3 grams be? drill out some of the weights that are already in there? Thats what someone had told me to do last year anyway... Then which ones do I need out, twards the tip of the arms or the base of the arms?

Its hard to say without knowing exactly what your "clutch kit" consists of. But if its stock mtx weights they should say 8FS on them. A good starting point on them would be to take the rivet out of the tip and go from there. You will more than likely hit the rev limiter on the trail but in the deep your rpm's will come back down.

But its all hard to say with what is in your clutch kit. If the kit was designed for Minnesota your helix could be way off for out west.

Not to hijack but what is the base weight of the 8FS??

8FS is 65.5
All your clutching info can be found here http://www.totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles ... tches.html

To add to the Heliz question out there - is it stock or changed? Even if they gave it a new one with the kit - it could just be a recut factory pitch. Angle would need to be known - but we should be able to get you close even if it is not completly known what helix is on it.
Also what color springs are in the primary and secondary to add to the weight question? Important to know this too.

Any other mods (gear change, exhaust, airbox).

honestly with the cost of weights - dont drill them out. Get a couple sets. That way when you change elevation - just change the weights quick and your set. I use the factory high elevation helix for mnt riding with a different set of weights and a spring change from factory. For low elevation I use a different set of weights and same spring. But i have other mods - which all go into that equation (rider weight, elevation, exhaust mods, helix...)

weights

Not sure about the springs and helix, If i get time I'll try and call Tim at Fix Powersports and see exactly what they did. This sled was from the factory a 121, I've stetched it out myself which probably changes things a little. So as the sled is now, Ive put in a facotry MTX 153 skid with challenger track and no slip drivers. 18 tooth top gear and 39 tooth bottom gear. MBRP pipe with factory header. And then the Fix Powersport clutch kit, which I will try to get more info on. Seems to run pretty good here in Southern MN. Not alot of top end, but pulls pretty good out of the hole. Mainly trying to build it for out west with the option to take it out from time to time here at home.
