I will be heading to the mountains pretty soon and I would like to get anybody's thoughts on how I should be clutched for 8,000-11,000 feet. I currently have the 05 clutch setup in my 05: 8bu-10/10.3 both holes, 14.5 mm rollers, O-P-O primary spring, white secondary, and a straight 45 degree helix. I live at about 1,700 feet elevation and I have installed the GP-1 and ECP filter kit. I was able to take it out and put on about 3 miles on the new machine and when I would nail it from a dead stop it would jump to 11,000rpm and then it would settle down to about 10,500rpm's. So what do you guys think, do you think this will pull pretty good at the higher elevation or do you think I should lighting up my rivets, change helix or maybe a spring.

Has anybody ran the 05 clutch setup yet at the higher elevation. Who knows maybe it will be right on the money but I just want to make sure I have it right. When you travel 10 hours you want to just unload and ride
and not have to worry about tuning.

How about guy's running the vector mtn? Does the clutching seem pretty good stock? If it does than maybe yamaha has now got this thing ready for the mountains.

I'm also looking to gear it down alittle. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

I would recomend the Shock wave Adjustable Helix it is a little spendy but well worth it if you do a lot of deep powder riding as you can adjust it with a allen wrench and a couple of twists, it works well with going from trail to the steep and deep!! and also 1 tooth down in gearing helps....

I'm sure some one who knows a lot more will let me know if I am wrong

riding 8-11m' will lower your rpms slightly. Do not gear down until you have 3,000 miles or more on it.
By then I think you will be glad you didn't gear it down. I ride from 8-13m' weigh 190 and pack 15lbs of survival gear and the stock gearing is fine for me. Make sure you get the jetting right or you wont have any fun.

Anybody running stock Vector Mtns, how is the clutching work. Has anybody tried the 05 RX-1Mtn setup or something reletively close. The days are getting closer and closer to when we leave. Just want to make sure the new setup will work.

Thanks
