so I went to load the phazer onto the trailer yesterday and I noticed the engine light flashing and it showed a code 85. I shut it down and looked around on the internet to find that it has to do with an oil pressure switch most of the time. upon checking the oil level i noticed that it was way overfilled. how this is possible i dont know I had it into the dealership for an oil change at the beginning of the year and the oil level was fine and everything ran just right. not sure if it makes a difference but its an 09 rtx.
if anyone knows anything about this situation id apreciate the input.

Probably the oil pressure switch wire came off. There was a thread on this a week or two ago, should be a quick fix.

Does the oil smell like gasoline?
Is it brown and frothy looking?
As far as I know, there are really only a few ways to get a higher level in the crankcase;
1) Overfill with engine oil
2) Gasoline is finding it's way to the crankcase/oil tank (I'm not sure about this with Yamaha's engine design)
3) Engine coolant getting past the seals/gaskets, and finding it's way to the crankcase/oil tank.

This is normally the culprit. Many times this is disconnected when changing the filter and not re-installed. It's a PITA but if you find that you might want to have a word with your dealer.Probably the oil pressure switch wire came off. There was a thread on this a week or two ago, should be a quick fix.

sure enough it was disconnected. im in the process of putting it all back together.
so basically i was running with zero oil in the engine?
also since the reservoir is too full should i just start it back up or is there someting i should do to ensure the engine has oi in it?

Make sure you don't thread in the dip stick to measure oil quantity.
The switch is only a pressure switch, you still had oil circulating. The computer would just not be able to tell if you had low pressure or not.

does it go into a limp mode or something it was running very poorly
Mine did NOT when switch failed but maybe the failure had it act normal.

Mine acted normal with the sensor unplugged.

weird, sensor unplugged it ran like s**t as soon as it was plugged back in it ran just fine.
the sled never stalls never misfires but with that sensor unplugged it seemed like it ran lean.
and when I looked there was no coolant or gas in the oil.
I will have to recheck oil level before i run it again. its possible I was having a mental fit and did not check it properly.
