Having a problem with the Ape I picked up. Got it for $3.5k, the guy I bought it from said it had 5k mi, turns out it was set to KM. Anyway, swapped in new bearings, hyfax, rebuilt the shocks, changed fluids and whatnot.

Rode it a few days ago, temps were around 10f and had no trouble starting it. It sat for two days, I went to use it this morning and it turned over too slowly to start. Plugged it in since the sled has a plug-in that powers oil, coolant, block heaters plus a battery tender. 8 hours later, I took it out this evening and it was running fine, temps around -5f. Sat for 2 hours, went to start it and had to turn the key 4 times to get it to start. Each time I would turn the key, wait a few seconds and turn it over for a few seconds.

Finally started but was running with no headlights for a few seconds. Does it normally take a few key turns for cold starts? Already ordered a ytx20 battery to replace it since colder temps are coming and the ytx14 in there appears to be the original battery.

re- cold start

Are you turning the key on and letting the guages cycle before you crank it? When I first got my 06 apex I just turned the key and started it and it ran goofy like in a safe mode or something and I was told you have to turn key on let the fuel pump do its thing, then start. If your battery is too weak, it will run, but the guages won't work right and you'll have lights flashing in the dash too. (that is if you can start it). But all said, it should start just as easy when its cold than when its not. Fuel injected just works and adjusts automatically for cold. More than likely its just a weak battery, replace it and then enjoy.

Yes, I would turn it on for a few seconds then hit the starter for a few seconds. The last time I tried I kept the starter going for 5-10 seconds, by the the time it fired up it was turning over very slowly, was surprised it started at all at that point.

Yeah just put in a new battery. I had similer problem with rx1. Just need more juice and she'll run and start fine.
