Couldn't decide between the MXZ 800 or the Apex ER

In the end, I decided to go with the Apex ER. I ride mostly groomed trails that get a bit rough at the end of the day but no off trail or mountain riding. The deciding factor for me was the reliability of the motor. I wasn't willing to sacrafice that for a few more inches of travel in the big bumps. My riding style is best classified as "mildly aggressive trail miles". Hopefully I made the right choice. I think the Apex is a revised version of the RX-1 not a "new model" so I don't think there will be alot of first year issues with the Apex.

Maybe I'm right.....maybe I'm wrong. Time will tell.

You made the right choice there by far. The 800 is by far the worst engine in the Doo fleet right now. The 600 is very good and the 1000 at least has the grunt, but the 800 is not that great.
A now the 800 is a better motor than the 600, it's better on gas and makes 20 mor hp and the thing about the ring issue has to do with more the 600's then the 800's. The 1000 maybe better for doo than the 600 or the 800, but only time can answer that. If it turns out to be like the 6 and 8, they are doomed
