cracked Rail and broken stuff

I like how you posted your question and answer. I had to read it twice to see if I was just too tired.

Thanks for the pics! I was reading on this site and some people are saying if you put an inline heater on a fuel injected snowmobile, it messes up the thermostat reading and makes it dump fuel into the cyl.s??? And fouls the plugs allot?

What happens is that the temp sensor is warmer than the rest of the engine due to the location of the heater when in use. The sensor indicates to the ECM that the engine is warmer than it really is.
Now on start up the ECM will dump less fuel into the cyl because of the false indicated warm engine causing a "hard to start" issue. If you don't realize what is happening and try to start multiple times you can either drain the batttery or flood the engine. Drained battery gives the ECM low voltage readings that also mess up the sensor readings and again "no start" scenario.
When using the heater, unplug it about 1/2 before attempting to start the sled. This will allow the temp sensor a chance to cool down to ambient temp giving the ECM the proper signal.
Another thing on a cold start is to hold the key in the "start" position a few seconds longer than normal. Sometimes the engine fires up but won't stay running. When this happens multiple times you will flood the engine.
Holding the key in the "start" position for a 5 second count will keep in the engine rotating so it can't stall and prevents a flooding situation. As the starter has a clutch you will not damage it by doing this.

Hm, interesting. Thanks for the info Steiner! And as for the holding the key to start position, I already do that so that shouldn't be a prob.
