Custom Painted '04 Grizzly

[Longhorn Grizzly]

Well, here's the custom paint job I've been working on for a month or so. It's a "theme" bike so take it easy on me , but I would like to know what everyone thinks.

I think it looks nice. Im not much of a Longhorns fan myself, but as you guys say, "hook 'em". Where I come from we say, "on Wisconsin" but to each their own.
By the way, on the side pic there is truck in the background. I may be wrong, but it almost looks like a Toyota Tacoma, is it?
Either way, shoot us some pics of the truck too.

Well I kinda went over board on the switches, but I was trying to fill the space. The one next to the temp gauge is to manually override the fan relay, the fan still comes on automaticlly but I can now turn it on at a lower temp.

Do you want to know which wire to tie into? or ??? I have photo's of where Longhorn Grizz and I installed the water temp sender and what size tap you need. Give me an idea of what info you would like and I'll post it, in a new posting.

What did you use on the "dirty" side to protect the back of the switches and wiring?

Also, what kind of coolant temps are you seeing in "normal" (as if there is such a thing) operation? There's been quite a lot of activity on the snowmobile side of this forum regarding the installation of temp gauges lately.

We haven't had a chance to ride much since we installed them other than some "test rides" after all was done up and down the street. Having said that, it looks like the temps at idle and just running up and down the street after warm up is around 160-180. Fan comes on automatically around 170.

For the dirty side of the switch/guage plate, I used a black plastic box that I bought at an electronics store (Altex Electronnics). I believe the box was something like 4 1/2" W by 7" L by 2" D and it fit the outer shape of the underside of the plate area perfectly.

The box has very thin flat top that flush mounts. I took the box and cut out the bottom with a roto tool leaving a 1/4" edge around the bottom. Then I attached the box with Marine Goop (excellent adhesion and water proof) with the bottom side up so that the wires, bottom side of the switches, etc are protruding through the bottom of the box and into the main body of the box. Drilled holes through the side of the box that faces the frame of the Grizz, ran all my wires through those side holes and seal with silicone.
Put the top on (which is now the bottom) with the supplied screws so I essentially have an "access port" to the bottom side of the switches and guage for maintenance and adding accessories to my switches.

I know it may sound a little convoluted, but it is very easy and nice looking and is almost completely unoticeable from the under side because the box is black and I painted the underside of the fenders black when I painted the bike.

I'm out of town on business right now and will get home on Wed or Thu at which time I'll take a few pics for you and post them here.

If anybody is interested in setting their bike up with this plate with guage and switches, let me know and I'll talk to my buddy at the machine shop and find what he wants to mill a few out. I could provide the switches that fit the cutouts as part of the package and let you know where to get the temp guage to complete.

Actually, that all made perfect sense to me but then I've been doodling designs for construction equipment on the back of cocktail napkins for years.

I was curious about the operating temps as it seems like the fan on both my Grizzlys operates quite frequently. While I've never had the temp light, I was on a ride with a guy, I think he does web sites in his spare time, who had his come on all the time. Probably had something to do with having a dirty radiator.

How do you like those dirt devil tires?? lookin into buyin some new tires and have heard alot of good things about them..what do you think??
