Rs Rage, srv, a bunch of arctic cat vintage sleds.
Sled is a RS Rage.

Dash and lights took a good minute or so to start today, normally it takes like 15sec. but it has been very cold with dips down to -25celcius a cuple nights now if that has something to do with it?

Once engine is warmed up it'll start the lights and dash right away on start, while sitting a week in the cold the lights/dash seem to take very long time to start working?

Battery has plenty of power and is new, fired right up with no hesitation even very cold.

Is it normal for it to take that long time even tho its cold?

My buddies '05 Vector just did this a couple weeks ago when it was -13°F in the morning. Started & ran fine, but dash, headlight & tail light were dead for a few minutes til the engine warmed up. Weird, I know....??

I've never experienced it on my RS Vectors ('07,'10, or '15) But, I guess I wouldn't worry too much. [emoji41]

Happened a lot with these and RX 1's and Warriors.
It was normal in very cold weather for my Warrior back in the day.

usually a sign of cold relays. as long as they come on, it is all good.

Thanx, guess I wouldn't worry over it that much if it's a normal thing.

Yup, it seems to be a coldstart thing.
:brrr:
I'm partially retarded when it comes to electrical, but my guess is that it's a relay or something cutting out while cold?
The rectifyer sits at the front subframe and would not be warmed by the engine so it could be rouled out.

You can change the load control relay over to the newer red solid state relay to see if that helps in colder temperatures.

SSR part #8GN-81950-00-00

You can also turn the gauge and lights on by holding the thumb warmer control down and then turning the key on. Keep holding down the thumb control and wait about 10 sec for them to come on.

I wired in a tether switch last night, in series with the killswitch as i often tow kids in a sled.
So I read the Wire Diagram.

Looking at it there seems to be electric carb warmers.
Wouldn't they zap most power from stator while it's very cold? They are wired in behind a 20amp fuse, gives a hint they may take alot of juice while used.

I'll check the load control relay with a multimeter next time its ballz cold again.

thnx!

along with the fuse there is a relay that controls power to the carb heaters. They don't take much power and the stator should have no problem supplying enough power unless the stator is bad. Outside temperature does not effect the heaters. Once the engine is running they are powered continuously regardless of outside temperature.

Started sled this morning with -26c (-16f) and it had been more than -30c (-22f) ealier. Dash and lights fired right up with the sled. ?

I'm starting wondering if it's even related to cold.

A Venture MP I rode with today had several relays not working, fuelpump relay and the reverse relay wouldnt work until we got a heat gun on the relays.

Gauge and lights wont fire up with thumbwarmer button down and key in run position btw.

on my old rx, it did this a few times at -30. have not replaced a relay on it to date.

Just cold, and the relay needs a little time to respond. No worries, as long as the instrument pod eventually comes back on.

<<Battery has plenty of power and is new>>
Well, did you measured it ?
My old 2005 would voluntary not latching the power relay if voltage under 11.9 volts after engine start. All this bragging about relays is caused (with reasons) by Apex stories i guess :-)
