Desperate for Electrical Help Ignition Fuse Keeps Blowing(long read)

I was thinking. Last thing I did was install some of those Velcro handguards. They squeeze the wires out of throttle block so will take that apart too. If nothing is visible will just have to replace entire harness.

I will take a look at the wiring diagram later today. Blowing a 40amp fuse is no joke and should be easy to find.

Right. Really thinking it’s the stator. But it’s charging fine. Will probably have to visual that.

You have to remember stator has "X" amounts of posts some are for charging some are for ignition some for accessories and so on, it is possible for stator to charge but ignition side be bad. Also it's possible to have a break in stator winding that only opens up when warm and closes back up when cold.

Did you have anything plugged in to your cigarette lighter outlet? I had a short in there once that took out my gauges.

No this is the ignition fuse. Everything goes out. Wont even crank over. Cigarette lighter is the Tail Light fuse. Still starts and runs just no gauge or Tail Light.

On cars that is usually the starter.

If you can't find a short anywhere, I would then look to the rectifier. I've never heard of a Yamaha doing this, but I saw plenty of Honda TRX atv's with faulty rectifiers which cause the main fuse to blow. I know that the rectifier doesn't update, so it is unlikely.

That doesn't sound good at all. If it starts happening again you could just disconnect select components and then turn the key on till you isolate the short. Just spitballing here. I hate problems that come and go. What gets power at key on?

If it happens again I will probably be in Middle of 906 and it gets cold up there. Need to keep warm by a nice blue fire!

Could inside the ignition switch have arched a terminal to ground and your repeated trying and blowing fuses
have burned itself clear (for now !!!)

Fuel pump short?
