Do I buy a 2014 or wait to snow check a 2015?

I would wait till this spring to see what new sled yamaha releases for 2015....It gives a whole real world year of the viper in the hands of folks, that will tell alot. After all Yamaha is releasing a new sled for the next five years from early reports this spring!

Love the ZX2. Best thing I ever did to the sled. Those "oh sh*t" moments are gone, it soaks up anything. No grease zerks, hardly any wear points, and it lasts forever. Pulling the skid in my phazer to find egged holes and bent shafts reminded me how great it is to never really have to worry about that in the apex with the ZX2. Check the torque on the bolts every once in a while, and thats damn near it. I think mdkuni has like 25,000-30,000 miles on his ZX2 in two different machines with only minimal maintenance/repairs.

Cool, keep us posted on what you do. I may or may not be in the market for a used one like yours. I am sorting things out as we speak on what I am gonna do this year. You look to be about an hour or so from where I live. You must know Bruce S. from B-Line.

Just do it. I was in the same boat as you just driving myself crazy and I went to the dealer to look at one. Next thing you know I heard myself saying let's go ahead and do it. Never looked back and the sled is a blast to ride.

As crazy as it is, I live like 4 miles from the guy, and drive right by his house to go to my sleddin' buddies place (also where our kids go to daycare), and I had NO idea what B-Line control was! I only found out last year via a fellow TY member that I had one of the best shock guys in the business right next door! He has been busy lately, there always seems to be a sled or two out front, or a trailer or two.

Based on all these "just doing it already" comments, I think I am going to throw the Apex up for sale. I almost HATE to do it, but selling the phazer wouldnt get me where I need to be down payment-wise to be comfortable with the payment on a toy. Plus I just ordered a 136 freeride for it. I think I will see what I have for interest in the Apex as-is, and if its not going to pan out, then either part her, put a stock skid in her and sell, or pick up some 136 ZX2 extensions and put the freeride from the phazer in.

I'll play devil's advocate here and make sure you don't "buy in haste and repent in leisure". You just fixed up your Apex. Financially it would make more sense to ride it another year to help get your money back out of it. I don't know what Apex's are worth in your area but make sure you don't give it away.

The Viper is still a brand new sled and real world ride reviews are just now coming out. The Viper has done worse in XC racing than the kitted Nytro did the past two seasons and that really surprised me. The new sled has certainly been showing some first year bugs as well and it's just the start of the season for the lower 48. Maybe waiting one more month, reading more posts and seeing how the sled holds up for others could save you some grief. Besides, how pissed are you going to be if they come out with something way better in '15? You'll know in just 2 1/2 months.

I hear ya AK. This is the first season where I was able to pull a sled outta storage, check fluids and bolt torque, etc, and just ride her. Im going to loose my #*$&@ on it regardless of whether or not I sell this year or next (unless I find a stock skid for a smokin price, and swap it out). Gah, loosing my stock skid still hurts as much to think about as the day I lost it.

Don't ever have your house burnt down... it is no fun and I would not recommend it. 0/10

My thinking is that if I pull the trigger on a Viper this year, wait for a 2015, or see what they come out with in a few months, I still need to sell her now, because in the spring no-one is buying. Next fall she will be another year older with another 1000+ miles on her and be worth that much less.

I was told the Viper didnt do well at the XC race because it was a ice race and they had a bad suspension setup. They forgot to lower them enough.

Good Luck with the sale Digital.

Akriders most on here have been waiting for 10 plus years and all they got was BNG every year till this year but I think they will be putting new engines in this viper chassis for the next 4 years and that's it . Witch is fine by me I like this sled so far
