OK, I have read for 2 weeks in stealth mode, joined recently...am already down the path of getting a Nytro...and boost, have spoken to the good guys like powderlites, adn Leiphemer in Butte, and read tons on MPI...

Do not need nor want more than 10psi of boost...as I am not interested in changing out fuel delivery, want right at 200HP, and want pump gas only Am only interested in Stage 1 Compressors...trying to figure out the hype vs. the hoopla...

So here are my questions that I am still stumped on...

Loads of hate toward MPI, is that mainly or exclusivley for their Stage II blowers?

  • What is the fuel economy of Supercharger vs. Turbo? it seems turbo would be a little mroe efficient...not looking for trail sled efficiency, just trying to learn...

is a supercharger install easier than a turbo? I know if I go turbo, I will pay to have it done...

    are either compressor shortening lifespan?

    Are either more reliable?

    does one = less maintenance?

Really appreciate insight, input and advice...care more about maintaining reliability than anything else...tired of playing with my tempermental rev. LOVEd the last ride I had on a nytro...only holding off on purchase till I see what Yamaha drops for 09...

thanks again

I run a turbo and with it set at 14 lbs(about 245 hp) on pump premium. With the supercharger @ 10lbs you will be 50/50 race fuel and premium.

Fuel milage with the super is MUCH less> I know because I ride with 2 of them. On a given day he will use 2.5-3 gallons more for 120 ks of riding

Reliability: With the super there are many issues as only 1 ride this season is my bud happy with his super,,whereas my turbo has been turn key.

The super has good bottom end as he can stay with me up to 30 mph

The turbo is more expensive about $3 gs more

Either one will put a smile on your face :4STroke:

Im gonna be short but to the point, turbo no questions asked. Powderlites or mcxpress is the ticket, mpi supers are a joke. Trist me or you will be kickin yourself later.

ok

I hear you...it seems that is the fact...wanting to take one out and see this boost lag thing myself...

there is a guy in Montana that is making a kit...I think the post was on here...NW Turbo Works

I have spoken with Dave at Powderlites, will be chatting with him at the SnowExpo in West, and have reached out to Leipheimer in Butte...

appreciate any other counsel on this as well....big investment, and hoping it is worth it!!!

also waiting a little to see if there is a re-vamp of the Apex...would love to see it more inline with the ergos and the weight of the Nytro...

i rode an MCX turbo and the lag wasn't bad at all, i was told the clutching they will do on my machine will help it out as well. I was also worried about pump vrs mixing and thats one of the reasons i went turbo as well. i asked about mileage and he said on the trails and keeping out of boost its almost as good as stock, in the mountains and doing lots of deep snow stuff where your on boost it gets worse for sure so carry extra fuel (the way i ride i already carry extra anyways) In the end i decided to go the turbo route and dropped the sled off yesterday, they said they can have it done for me before i leave next week for the mountains so i'll get to try it out pretty quick.

Get the MCX turbo. It's the only kit that compensates for altitude. It will run the same with same power at 13,000 ft as it will at sea level. And clutching is always the same, then.

how is it that this kit is the only one that compensates for altitude?

dont understand that?

i run a blower at 10psi on pump fuel. I got 79 miles to 9.1 gallons of mountain riding which i think is really good.

hmmm

like I started this thread...I really dont know if all the hype and bashing I hear is regarding the stage II MPI stuff? or are there other people making a supercharger? have read about the thundercharger, but they dont have it in production yet....

I don't know why other kits don't compensate. MCX adds their own electronics with a barometer built in. That and a vacuum boost controller on the waste gate.

If your looking to have a MCX kit done give Wyane a call at Alpine Yamaha in Livingston he did my install and it was very clean.

The fuel injected SC's (Apex)I've been around all get about 7mpg after they are tuned and the motor is broken in. I think Spray's stage II Nytro is getting a little better than 7.

For some reason the carbed rx-1 and vector motors do way better on fuel with the SC.

And back to the original question. Turbo all the way...

4 strokes dont need much tuning for altitude very little to say the lest my tvec runs perfect from 3000ft to 10000ft never touch the jets almost dead nut on my a/f its a little lean down low but is almost perfect at 7-8000ft & a touch rich at 10000ft.powderlites kit/synergy kit/parkermotorsports kit all run the rapid bike 3 fuel timing controller & will do allot more than the mcx kit fuel controller the mcx is more dont touch auto pilot like where as you can tune with the rapid bike. ;)!
