Tried to change left side axle bearing, removed set screws but would not move. I have changed several Apex bearings, a couple of 06 's ,came out easy. My 08 Nytro, could not get bearing to turn on shaft or slide out.Any ideas on getting bearing off without removing driveshaft?

Try penetrating agent and let it soak and try prying it with a large FLAT screwdriver from inside tunnel between the driver and bearing collar if it doesn't move HEAT the bearings collar up with a set of torch to get it to expand and it'll slip off...once you get it off make sure to sand all RUST off the shaft where your bearing sits and apply a coat of ANTISIEZE or GREASE and re-assemble it and make sure to LOCTITE your set screws.

Just had mine out yesterday - came out very easy.
You did remove 2 torx setscrews - correct?
Did you remove the speed sensor gear?

After removing the bearing cover held on by 4 screws (2 of them also hold on the speed sensor), also remove the 2 lower screws that hold on the steel plate that goes under the bearing. If you can pry that plate out (without bending it) the bearing will come out with it)

Drive bering life...
Do you guys think this is a once a year item. (mileage?)
Or every second year maintenance?

I talked with port yamaha and they suggested around every 4-6000 miles along with the exhaust dounts.

BTbt, please take the time to update your location in your profile, Thanks!

I would think every year, especially if you do a lot of spring riding. Though it depends upon if you lube them up during the year too...

I went 2 years, 2000 miles, and mine was toast.

I was expecting to have to replace mine - 5200 miles - but it feels perfect. I added a bit of grease to it and put it back in.

Had mine checked over last week and it was fine too. 5700 kms, never greased it once ! All the mechanic did was remove it, clean it, and pack it full of grease, said it's good for another couple years at least.

mine blew last year....about 5000-5500 miles. i talked to a yamaha dealer and he said he is changing them around every 4. was surprised i got that much life out of it.

Any input on the bearing on other end of shaft? chaincase side. i have it but did not put it on yet.

Thanks for the suggestions, tried them all except heat. I haved changed several Apex bearings, no problems, will let penetrating fluid soak for a few days and will try again.

something for the 08 and high mile 09 to consider before the season !!....mine looked like i took it to the beach !

This is why I grease it during riding season and take it apart in the spring once season is over to clean and repack it...it'll last forever!
