Driveshaft bearing grease cap question

That is beyond reusable. The rust on the bearings/cage and the crud on the inside of the seal indicate water has gone in and started destroying the bearing. Lack of grease is also not good.

Good thing you checked that out before the season started!

X2 on the thread, I'd like to see that too.

Thanks Mr.Pitstop, appreciate you finding and posting these up! ;)!

That one looks nasty, I say buy a new one. Takes about $30 & 20 minutes to change it.

Hi THKSNOW,

Can you describe the 20 minute process? I was thinking I would have to drop the skid and remove the driveshaft. I ordered the bearing as my dealer did not have one in stock. Thanks! :rocks:

As I recall all I did was the following on my 2006 Attak:
1) buy new bearing
2) loosen the track with sled on stand
3) remove secondary, speedo pickup, bearing cover c-clip
4) With a GOOD allen wrench, remove 2 allen set screws that hold the bearing to the driveshaft, you can see the (2) screws on the inside of the tunnel, take them all the way out. Just rotate the track and you'll see them.
5) I was told the bearing may need some "help" coming off but with 7,000 miles my bearing slid right out and off the shaft. It is not pressed on.
6) Slide new bearing on and replace set screws.
7) Re-install everything and tighten & allign the track

Took me about 20 min., pretty easy job. I don't think I forgot anything, the rest of you please chime in if I did. I did mine before last season started (about a year ago).

Good luck and THKSNOW!

No need to drop skid or move shaft. Just loosen track, remove secondary(make sure spacers go back same way), remove speedo pick-up and cover, loosen 2 torx on bearing from inside tunnel and use a prybar from inside tunnel to push bearing off towards end of shaft. Should move pretty easy. Make sure to clean and grease end of shaft before re-install of new bearing. Little torx screws should have lock-tite on them for re-install. Like previously stated if you have the correct Torx should take 20min max. ;)!

I'd change that one. Then start greasing the new each year.

Not try to steal the thread but has anyone had any luck greasing the bearings on the 06 and up Apex that has the "non-replacable" bearings? I found I could pull the seal off the smaller wheels with the 6205 bearing but not the rear larger wheels.

Re-greased them for 4 years and 12,000kms, never lost a wheel and let me tell you they were almost completely seized at times. Twice a season and finally replaced them with Yam accessory wheels in my final season with the 2006.
