So this past weekend i installed a 23 tooth top gear and a white secondary spring on my 09 Apex GT. I was racing a Dragon 700, and across the lake [1/2 mile] in one direction he would get out of the hole by 2, but I'd beat him by 5, the other way he would get me out of the hole, but I could'nt catch him. WTF? Rpm's around 10700 to maybe 10900, but only 106 on speedo the 'FAST WAY' and 98 the' SLOW WAY'. Please help...

multiple passes, but my buddy did say that on one run I had flames coming out of my exhaust, this is my first Yamaha, and I have'nt read anything like that on this site before. Just bugging the hell out of me.

Is it backfiring at all?? How many miles on it??? IS is stock lol. Maybe its time to check exhaust donunts.I would look there first or cracked pipes when they blow flames or backfire it proboly the donuts.

Sounds like he has after-burners....cool! I bet nobody even noticed who won that race.

It just turned 3000 miles and YES, it is stock other than the gear and spring. 144 1.375 down the middle. Sound pretty early for doughnuts though does'nt it?

MY rtx wasent far off that and when i put excell exhaust on this year i figure i would check my out since i was right there and sure as hell mine were damn near done not all of them but 2 were pretty well done.I keep 4 new ones in my shop at all times for it.

are they covered under Y.E.S.? I have that, and do the doughnuts really affect performance?

Yes they can kill your performance. I had them go out on my 06 RTX 2 years ago in tthe UP. I was only getting about 75 miles to a tank and lost about 15 MPH.

what are more symtoms of bad doughnuts? I went 117 miles and ran out of gas, rpm's are right, but I don't have speed. Don't hear anything unusual, but this is my first Apex. I'm courios as to why my Apex " seems slower" than others. thanks

To see if it's your donuts, start your sled and, with gloves on, cover you exhaust. If the sled stalls your donuts are ok. If it keeps running. They are shot.

The symptom i had was backfiring. It only happened when going from high speeds, into hard braking, and then the backfiring would occur, and it also was alot louder.

There is a TON of factors that effect top speed. When the donuts go out you can hear a pst pst pst at idle if you listen real close on each side of the sled by the bars. Also do the plugged exhaust test to see if it dies.

Were you going into the wind on one way?
