Many Thanks to Aaron Excell and his team for the opportunity to participate at the DynoTech/AM Snow shooout in Old Forge, NY on Saturday. Excell was the dealer representing Yamaha and they/Yamaha supplied a 2018 Sidewinder LTX for the 2017 shootout. Starting line was the biggest challenge for all of the sleds that ran and our hope was to have a good showing. Highlights of the day… 'out of box' run #2 we got good hookup and we spun less and got a decent launch for a great MPH of 107. In my opinion run # 1 was the warm up where the belt and clutches just needed a little more heat in them and that’s why we got good MPH out of the sled with a better ET as well on run #2. Dealer Prep we decided to keep the stock clutching and focus on setup and some other items to see if we could get a better ET. If we had clutched it, we would have blown the track out and went even slower than we did in the box-stock rounds. Again, 1 st run in Dealer Prep did not produce a better ET due to starting line challenges. 2nd run I spent a little more time at the starting line to see where the best launch would come from. ‘Found it… Put it here” Made the 2nd run and Sidewinder went 9.39et with a little slower MPH than box stock (think it was 105). I could see the ‘better start’ from the one that was just run and we were all smiles and was the ‘quickest’ et of the shootout sleds of the day. This sled ran 1000ft in the shootout. Again Excell Motorsports Team did a heck of the job getting the dealer prep sled ready. Great job guys!

Next we had been working with my 2017 LTX LE for the past few weeks trying to get the combo with the clutching to take advantage of the Excell PowerForce Stage II Kit that was installed on my sled. I had run this kit all last winter and felt it had more in it with more tuning so that’s what we worked on with this kit producing 250+. We focused on getting quicker off the line and putting the power to the track as we launched and then having it come in a hard as we could 60ft~100ft out. Some would call that ‘clutching’ :) This class ran 660ft for 2 runs with a MPH of 103 and 104. I’ll post the ET later as I want to make 100% sure from the sheet that we wrote it down on at the shop. With the Excell Stage II Kit we got the award for the ‘Best Bang for the Buck’ in the Turbo Trail Mod Pump Gas class.

Overall it was a great experience and would do it again in a heartbeat with some focus on some small changes to help make the sled get better off the line for both sleds. Thanks again to Aaron Excell and his team for including me and they did an Awesome Job on the Shootout Sled, were my focus was my Trail Mod Sled driven by Austin Excell, Aaron Excell’s son.

Thanks,

Nice work! That's some impressive box stock numbers. Is that the best box stock et of any sled ever tested at AM Shootout?

The shootout used to be 1/4mi / 1320ft. It's been moved back to 1000ft. as far as I know it's the new best ET and MPH . SRX and Vmax4 had the records for a long time. Sidewinder is now the record holder from what I understand.

Different days, different locations, different conditions. Cant really compare years IMHO. Sounds like the starting line wasn't good this year.
