Installed my ECP filter kit and noticed a big change in top end. Stock set up I could get around 122 now only 105. Same lake same conditions, I can hold it open for a mile or two easy. RPM's stayed the same 9800-10k. The install went smooth. Installed the 165's,silver springs and filters. Runs real nice but somthing is not right, its kinda flat. I weigh 260 and I think that is the reason for not pulling more rpm's. I was hoping the filter kit would add enough power to cure the low rpms. Not sure what to do other than put the stock setup back on see if I can tune the stock clutch for my weight.

Did you change the pilot screw adjustment to 2 1/2 turns ? If you have just the stock weights in then drill out the center and top rivets to get your rpm back up .You have to be in the 10700 rpm range for best results. 8) 8)

Mine wouldn't do over 103 on the speedo with my kit. I removed the kit and sold it because I was going to sell the Warrior but changed my mind and decided to keep the sled, but the kit is gone. I just came in from a ride and was able to hit 126 on the speedo in less than a 1/2 mile. There is definately something wrong with the top end using the kit. I was wondering if it has something to do with air tubulance under the hood at high speeds causing some type of air starvation :?

I have the kit and I saw 126 on the speedo recentely. Turn your air screws 2.5 turns out, make sure your track tension is good and that your carbs and clean and sync'd. It will still pull topend with the filters. Goodluck

I will check the air screw adjustment. I didnt touch them when I had the carbs off. There is zero hesitation,so Iam not sure if that will help the top end..My four stroke thinking tells me that it might be timing?..Looks like Iam going to have to get some clutch tools for Yammie and work on the weights. That will just about round out my clutch tool draw..I hope they dont fight with my Doo and Cat clutch tools.. :D

Mine was at 129 last year, this year 126 w/ 1 tooth smaller top gear, and now w/ ecp kit I can't get over 115. All on speedo. I think the kit is coming off soon! Bill

Lost top end too!
I've talked to 10-12 guys that have the same problem!
Jets, air screws, sync carbs & new plugs, nothing fixes it!
I don't know if I'll leave them on next year because of it!!!
Stack them in the garage with most of the other aftermarket $hit!!!!!
ITS A BIG PROBLEM GETTING OVER 100 MPH!!!!!!!!!

Ok for the hundreth time,,,,, 126 on the dream meter and 10600 on the tach and no oil spewing out of the breather with the ECP kit installed. Oh wait I forgot to mention I have a magical sled with little fairies under the hood. They wipe up the oil and make the engine spin faster RPMs.- Cubby

Cubby,

Have you done anything other than replacing the jets, springs and adding the filters?

I think Iam going to put the stock box back on and straighten out the clutches..I dont know for sure but I think 4 stroke fever is starting to wear a little thin with me..

Be a smart A$$ if you want but some are having issues. I tested with the kit and stock in the same night on the same field. Kit on I hit about 90, kit off I hit 106. Just because you are having good luck doesn't mean we aren't cubby.

Mighty- I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, I am just as curious as you are about what else could be wrong with your sled. Clutching perhaps???? Does the term "driving thru the clutch " sound familar?

Rockland- Yep I put the kit on as per the instructions and used the spark plugs also. Yes this sled has a Bender heelclicker clutch,( with the little flat blade screw weight removed from the tip of the weight ) and I also have a bender loud pipe. As per Mike Bender removing the 1 gram weight from the furthest part away from the pivot increased my top RPM from 10200 to 10600.

This ones for everybody- The sled Freddie first dyno'ed was a 03 shorty with a loud pipe, Mine is a 03 shorty with a loud pipe. I'm just curious, could Yamaha have done something to the 04s so this kit doesnt work on them???????? Hmmmmmm.----Cubby

Have any of you guys taped off the vents on the hood? Seems like that may calm the air down a little. I was going to try it this weekend but ran out of time. I may try it tomorrow night. We have a field that is about 1200ft long near me.

I too had the ecp kit and it pulls like a sun of a B*tch to 100 then just falls on its face!! Like its not getting any more fuel!! I then added more weight to the HHs and it did drop the rpms down from 10,700 to 10,400 and it still was the same!!

I got my new sled and left it stock... Pulls to 100 and keeps going with no end!! i havent had enough room to take it too far!!

I reciently add the stage two to my new sled and it accually feels slower when accelerating but its quicker... And still pulls past 100 with ease!!

If someone doesnt come up with the answer for this problem.. Then my kit will be collecting dust on my shelf!!
