Hi folks, I was talking with a fellow Apex owner today and we were talking about available upgrades for these beasts. Speedwerx makes a commander for the Cats turbo sled but what is there available for The Apex? He has an '06 and I am in the process of getting an '07. I tried a search but it mopstly came up with turbo threads. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, I know it is not a turbo sled but can we expect to gain good gains from a mod like this, I am not expecting big gains like the cat, but a 20-40hp gain should be obtainable. I know on bikes if I do this with a pipe then it is easily acheived.

not sure what you mean here.....ECU upgrade?....no such thing that i know of for apex.
the only reason you see those type of MAP CHANGES with turbos is cause they need to add more fuel to make the turbos run the right AFR under boost.
maybe what you should check into is a Powercommander....that is a piggyback unit that allow you to custom tune your fuel MAP overtop of the stock MAP in ECU.
I along with many others have been running a pc3 and ignition module which allows us to add timing and fuel for alittle extra punch....when you combine that with a ramair setup it can yield up to 10hp.
RamAIR IMO is the single biggest adder to an apex there is...(other then SC or Turbo)....mine cost me 20 bucks to make.

Power Commander is exactly what I am talking about, or maybe even a chip upgrade in the ECU. I want to be able to add HP without going to a turbo. So a Ram Air unit, a can, power commander so far for the list, is there better y-pipes or is this not a worthy upgrade? I guess, I will do more searching for mods.

I have a PCIII on mine, Bender exhaust and a modded airbox, and I'm not sure 20 hp is a realistic expectation? The PCIII will add or subtract fuel to tune a particular condition, and maybe add a little power, but I'm not sure I noticed much? Someone correct me if I'm wrong? I had a lean condition at high rpm's after my mods, so adding fuel there may have gained me more hp for sure, but I don't quite know what to say to reach 20. I do not have the timing advance kit on mine though, maybe that would add more?

pc111 alone i would think more like 3-4hp if that.

Thats probably about right? I wouldn't say to add one unless you've made airflow improvements (airbox or exhaust).

Okay look at this from a diff angle. Buy some products that reduce the weight of the sled, its as good as horsepower AND itll be far easier to throw the big girl around. They make exhaust/skids/control arms..you name it for weight reduction.

Pc3 alone is not worth it IMO....unless you have a free flowing exhaust to go along with it.
when you add TIMING that is where you get some ponys with the pc3 AND ignition module.
dont expect much though.....i am typically about 3-5mph faster then most stock apexs on radar around here....but i got alot of tricks done to get that.
if you want real HP adder, you need to go with BOOST.

Dan, check out my link to the Yamacharger. It is supposed to add about 20 HP for about $2200 and it has been Dynoed to back the claims.
