Mine was wired to the jump start lead coming off the battery on chain case side (no problems at all)... just install an inline fuse to prevent any problems.

Yep, I wired my Apex that way. Just like pedros1983 says, don't forget about the in-line fuse.

Make it real simple.. Wire it to the cigarette power plug which is about 12 - 18" of wire away from the handlebars and this will be wired to only operate when the sled is turned on. If yours doesn't have this then go the battery jump cables on the right side.

I wired mine, to teh battery. In 3 different applications (2 Apex's and a Vector) i have experienced a wire burn down once. I believe this was due to the connection being loose. No harm done, and an obvious fix.
I think the advanges of keeping your visor defrost "on" when you are trail side having a pop or two, is worth the effort of going to the battery. You don't have to wait for the shield to catch up when starting out again , on a cold night.

Here you go... SMA-DCOUT-PL-UG its expensive but worth it, my bud bought the cheap 1 from Royal as in pic posted by "quebec#1" and keeps unplunging and looses power while the YAM stays in place.
I also HOT WIRED my 12v acc. to battery w/10A fuse so I can back feed my OPTIMATE III, I leave it plugged when sled is not in use, this way you UNPLUG & RIDE! with a FRESH battery every ride, its also very handy for my GPS or CELL PHONE, it stays on even if sled is not running!

very good.....I love having the 12v acc. wired to battery for constant power....works well for radar gun and with GPS it wont pull all the power from shield and fog me up like it used to....as I had them both coming off same feed.
