Eliminating ice build up in tunnel

just a reminder also ,not only is the snow flap an important part in the cooling and hyfax lubrication,as rex said,it's also VERY IMPORTANT safety flap against throwing "weapons" equal to chinese throwing stars,not to mention it's illeagal and yes finable in certain states,maine i kno. very dangerous!!!!

Ice build up

I to, put my machine in a heated garage after a run, so I can check it over. The thing is that after your sled is dry and you have done your checks, it is better to put the sled back out, or in a cold storage area, to bring the temp. of the skid frame back to outside temp. This I find helps with ice buildup. Also the more paint off the skid the more places the ice cyrstalls have to adhere to. Cold smooth surfaces seem to help with letting the buildup drop off quicker. This is just a observation though, and it might be just my imagination, but it is a thought....Don

If I dont remember wrong this thing was tested out by someone on the phazer forum last year, trying to prevent the ice build up in tunnel. It didnt make any difference at all.. But maybe it was another brand. Look forward to hear your rewiev

Might have been the same stuff as the results were the same, no difference at all.

Oh well, it was worth a try.

We went riding this weekend, my two apexs and my buddy on his new 04 rev 600 - I have no idea what suspension is under the doos, I have enough time learning the yammis...but he had consistently more snow/ice build up under his sled.

It was warm, so it may not be a good comparison as our apex had nothing. I think with the temps and the heat from the exh may have been enough to keep ours clean.

But he had quite a bit.

I'm a GREASE freak, everytime before a long trip I grease up my rear suspension and I notice by doing this I get a certain excess ending up in the tunnel area = NO SNOW build-up or a lot less...specially on milder days I hardly have build-up, on the colder days I notice a bit more but as soon as you ride her hard with all the heat build she cleans out pretty good.

I use SWEPCO TRIPLEX grease this stuff is amazing it will not WASHOUT, it just hangs on for ever the only way to wash it off is with brake cleaner and even at that you still end up with residue

man that just sounds like its going to collect alot of dirt/snirt and any other abrasive material. I personally would rather deal with the snow.

I have a simple fix, just mount one of those dump truck bed vibraters under the tunnel,and energize it every now and then,to break the ice loose.
Here's another,when your lining up for a drag with your buddy, who's on a ski-doo, hit the vibrater, he think his engine is ready to blow again,will cause him to lose focus,and you will have an easy win.

Why not run 1/2 inch copper tubing down one tunnel protector to the front, then over to the other side and back again. Run you coolant through it. Keep ice off and add extra cooling

I know someone last year mentioned to have Tunnel protector radiator, was from a Cat. Just can't find it! Anybody remember that picture?

I think that would be the ticket to go with. Eh Yamaha, maybe change the radiator under the foot step for a tunnel protector radiator.

i think they should go with both tunnel and under the foot heat exchangers, i've seen it too many times the cat and doo guys loosing there footing because of ice build up on the running boards, mine are always secure and i dont have to worry about chipping my running boards after i stop and get a bite to eat, just get on and ride.

Front hole on my Phazer is covered with a piece of Teflon coated aluminum.Look at front compared to back.
