I have a 09 XTX and was cross country riding in MN over the weekend, and noticed when i was standing up riding in a field at high speeds and let off the throttle it almost threw me over the handle bars. Is there anything that can be done. I havent been on a yamaha for 10 years, and not sure if like this feature for boondocking.

There is really nothing you can do. It is a result of the 4-stroke engine. I have gotten used to it and now really like it.

I feather the throttle a bit. Seems to take some of the harshness out of the engine braking. Also, don't grab a fist full of your brake lever. I always touch the brakes and let off, never a full pull on the brakes.

Aren't there clutch kits that reduce enging braking?

Yes, changing the secondary spring in your clutch will help tremendously. Call Allen at Ulmer Racing, he will be able to assist you..

The Nytro is equipped with the EBRS but it doesn't completely eliminate it. The best advice beyond the clutching is to not chop the throttle all the way off. By keeping the throttle bodies open a little, you allow the motor to free wheel a little easier. The EBRS, as I understand it, allows some air bypass when the throttles are closed. I guess it could be not working in your case but i'm not sure how you would test it.

You'll get used to it. I barelly ever have to use the brakes because of this feature. You'll have to learn to to use more throttle control if you don't like how this engine braking works. Its like a jake brake but more extreme. Best advice ride alot and play with the sled so you get use to it and then you'll know what works for you.

i did not like it at all at first either and now i am used to it and hardly notice... i rode a friend of mines sled the other day and it actually felt weird that it didnt engine brake.

The problem isn't when trail riding, it's when your closing in on a stump or tree off trail and you need to get off the throttle NOW. That's when you get thrown over the bars.

Took awhile to get used to it. First experienced it on my Apex, but the Nytro shimmies back and forth if your standing up and not paying attention. Totally used to it now, and actually like it, less braking required.

Hey your lucky i was in deep powder and my hand slipped off the throttle and machine stopped and i landed between the skis
