I have a 09 nytro and I bought new bars. To take the bars off I decided to unplug my hand warmers. Now my engine light is on and it's showing code 81. It means short circuit going to the grip warmers. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the engine light without buying hand warmers?

light will stay on if you dont hook up a set of warmers , unless u can loop a wire in the harness to fool computer??
once they are hooked back up and you restart sled the light and code should go away...

What your saying is to just connect the wires together? I dont get it. I was thinking about just trying to ground the wire out. I would like to be sure before i do it.

Whem i replaced my bars i just went to Canadian tire and purchased a set of the tape on under grip warmers.IThey were only $30. I just cut my factory ones off and soldered the new ones in line. I did this so that i could install pro-taper bars and after market grips. I now have yamaheaters hooked up and my grips work great and i dont get any codes.

If you plug your old bars in and then set the grip warmers to zero the light will stay out when you unplug the grips.. but if you touch the grip warmer button the engine light will start flashing again

Does it matter what wire goes where. The 2 wires that are on one side are black. Same with the other side. I dunno if it makes a difference how I joins them together with new warmers.

You can't just "loop" the hand warmer system. I tried it...the system is designed to push a certain ammount of omes thru them at a progressive rate. I swiched bars and went with the basic 3 stage (low, med, and high) warmer elements from RSI and burt them up in a season...I found out later that I was forcing to many or to little omes thru and toasted them. I just spent the money and picked up a set of OEM replacments after a season of riding with that yellow light flashing in my face. It doesnt matter which wire goes where, as long as it complets the circut. Hope this helps, good luck!

The ECU is looking for a closed circuit. In other words, as soon as there is a broken wire, burnt warmer or disconnected plug, the ECU will give a code 81. As long as something is connected to the end of those plugs, the ECU won't care. Try connecting a small 12V bulb to the end of the plugs where the warmers used to be connected. If you need some light under the hood, just turn on the handwarmers
