So it sounds like you will get more out of the flash than an ignition module and power commander...
What do safe AFR numbers look like?
I really like the look of the PC-V/Pod-3 setup. I also like the look of the Koso gauge but question the reliability based on other threads here. Are there any other options along these lines? I like the idea of a user adjustable controller/gauge in one with nice big numbers that are user defined. The prologer also looks like a decent option.
Well that's a lot of questions at once. But
1. A flash vs. an ignition module and power commander. each is more specific to certain items. On a stock motor no shim sled you can run much higher boost with lower octane with the simple flash pulling timing. You will still need fuel pump and injector upgrades to safely run over 6#'s of boost. My 15 will be flashed and set at 6 & 9 on the switch my 14 will be on PC-V with pod and 20#'s of boost cause it has low compression pistons already in it. A flash is a once and done deal so any changes it has to be taken out and sent back in.
2. Safe AFR #'s the best I can say is try to get to 10.5 during WOT. A lot has to do with stock timing?, how much boost?
3. Some are still running the KOSO but I have heard of too many with trouble from it. I still like separate gauges some guys like the AEM all in one.

The more I look at it, the more I like the prologger. It appears to have lots of the same functions as the PC with a lot less cost... I much prefer the KOSO or Pod-300 display though. Any other options along those lines out there? Big numbers are good while going fast...
Tough position to be in. Since we have no boost referenced fueling there is no way that an ECU flash can compensate for changes. I think if I could have my cake and eat it I'd probably have a reflashed ECU and then use a power commander PTI to adjust fueling based on boost and intake temp. Let the ECU take care of the rev limiters, smooth out the base map and back down the timing (No first hand experience on my part - I'm just giving the benefit of the doubt here) and then tune with something that you can work with in the field.

That's kinda what's on my mind. I'm half thinking that same thing. If Yamaha doesn't fix their issues, I'm thinking of flashing with EVO, then adding a PC to get the gauges/boost control and fine tuning. Honestly, I probably won't tune much. I would prefer a set it and forget about it. I also like the idea of having two boost settings. If I get bad gas or can't find premium, I'd like the ability to go to very low boost to save my engine... Having the switch to go between maybe 1-2PSI or otherwise deemed safe number and 6PSI would be nice! For that matter, I could use no boost while cruising with the old folks and women which would allow 87 Octane for cost. When we go on the guy runs, pump some premium in it and kick it up to warp speed.

How would you setup your clutching though?

I'd keep it set up for boost. I know it will be slow and gutless without boost, but who cares for gentle cruising or emergency can't find gas scenarios... I'd bet it will still keep up with the average 2-smoke

The ProLogger is a great choice for gauges plus it has boost control. While it does many things, it does not control fuel or timing.
You know it is funny but mine switched at 9 & 12@'s and clutched on the ragged edge for 12 meaning sometimes it was making more power than the clutching could handle and banging off the limiter I would switch back to 9 #'s and with about 30 hp diff I was seeing 8800 rpms so it really did not lose much at that setup. on the other hand one night I broke the pin that held the waste gate actuator rod on, and lost all boost. With the noise it was making I thought I blew another stock header out so I rode it home that night still seeing 8400 rpms and it was ride able even with low compression pistons. How would you setup your clutching though?
For 1-1/2 seasons I have ridden with a boost switch at first 6 & 9 and then 9 & 12 and both times I could run without much loss of rpms on the lower boost setting.

Good to know. No Turbo on mine yet but thinking of using two tunes.

Flash vs just a power commander flash gives you more. Flash vs the power commander w/ignition module you get more with power commander. Biggest thing with power commanders is 5 min later you can have it removed from sled, and you can adjust maps and diff parts of your ecu perimeters and email diff maps back and forth with friends/tuners also that you can't with a flash.

if you have ignition module you can take timing out to allow 87 fuel and not have to worry about it. the EVO turbo flash will do that, just tell them what you want and they will program that way. That's kinda what's on my mind.
