excell header broke

Well I'm glad to hear that they are thicker material. I hope i have a thicker one, since my exhaust just arrived at my door last friday! Im gonna dyno my sled before (100% stock) and after (with the exhaust, power comander and K&N's) and get my actual gains. I can post if anyone is interested. Im not a big fan of getting a range of hp gain. Actual #'s is what i like! :yam:

Get a hold of Aaron at Excell and he will reinforce it if it's an orignial version or have it welded. I agree with Allen the ice build up can cause huge chunks to come loose resulting in header failure. I have minimized ice build up by enclosing the opening around the exhaust.

A leak in a header will also exhibit lack of performance along with a backfire in exhaust when off throttle after a long hard pull. This can be confirmed by your buddy you riding behind you a night time with a nice flame out the tailpipe..

Due to the ice chunks... Maybe if someone could come up with a header guard of some sort. Would be good for any system. Yes?

Another option is cutting out your tunnel protectors = no ice build up.

But I know you studded folks can't take this approach.

just to put it out there, i beleive that the exhaust doughnut wear issues related to our nytro's is not helping the cracked header cause. When they are severely worn out, the loose play surely causes a vibrating header that eventually leads to cracking of the welds. just my .02$

Yes this has happend on stock nytro and apex headers.

x2 and cutting out the tunnel protectors helps with the ice build up. I bought a used header(that had been repared by Excell) from a member last year and ran it for 2000 miles with new donuts. About half way through the season I began having a hard time with high RPM's. Decided to take a look at my donuts this summer and sure enough one was gone and the other two were starting to wear but the header was fine. I'm pretty sure that I would have had issues with the header if all three donuts had been gone and my protectors were still in. I now have copper donuts so we will see how the header holds up this year.

I just put new donuts in about 200 miles and one grass drag event ago, so I am thinking that i could take a little off the spacer in the clamp and be good to go. Although, when everything is apart, that would be a good time to put in the copper donuts... what to do... what to do...?

Mine broke, I know of another that broke. Mine had been modifyed so I didn't even bother contacting them. But the other I know he at least got a discount on a new one.

That other one would be mine. It was modified and I still received a decent credit towards a new one. Best thing you can do is call them directly and give them a chance to work it out. Aaron was great to deal with.

Does anyone here who has had a broken header have a tunnel block off?????
