Trying to find out what are the Center to center on the Expert X shocks are.
Got a feeling my are going to be blown this year and would like to put a set of floats or something like that in. Also will save some LBS.

Well if you had asked this Monday I could have helped ya LOL! I just shipped mine to Carver for a rebuild and revalve. Should have them back late next week. If no one else gets it, I'll have it for you then!

X shocks are about 13.75" extended.

I had Floats in mine for a while. They were ok and saved a ton of weight but I went back to the stock shocks for jumping. I would like to try them again but with Float R's. You at least need rebound dampening or the skid turns into a pogo stick once you bump the pressure up.
Another sweet setup if possible would be two regular Floats connected to a single reservoir mounted on the rail that had both compression and rebound dampening.

I dont really jump or trail ride hard, thinking floats for weight. I more or less ride about 1000 miles a year to and from the lakes for racing.

if you want to save weight and want to lake race get a doo skid, sc 2,3,4,5, whatever. these boivin skids are heavy, both the x-pert and the zx plastic skid. bjowett posted extensively about fox shocks and the problems he had, removing the 2 coils wont make a great difference in weight. i was dissapointed that the zx was so heavy, considering its plastic. the expert is a great skid but theres nothing light about it.

On a turbo Attak running a 144 there is nothing light about them any way...LOL Not going to get away from the expert X, I love it for what I am doing with the sled..I am going to have to replace shocks anyway on in or get them rebuilt and figured the floats would be the way to go.
If not I will call Hygear up and get a nice set from them.

Grader what is the weight of those skids you mentioned SC,x,x,x,x?
The ZX2 is 51lbs
Mono shock is 51 lbs
Proaction (old rx and 2 smoke) is 71lbs
The lightest skid on the market is 32lbs and $3500
Most mountain aftermarket skids are 40-45lbs.
Curious about the SC series weight.

dont know the exact weights of the doo skids, just that they are lighter than the boivins and the yamahas. my 136 expert with custom built extensions (8in -4 rear axel wheels) is 69 lbs, same as the 136 no-action it replaced. love the skid but light it aint.

My 144 Expert-X with Float shocks, no overload springs, two idlers in the front, and 2 billet wheels in the back weighed about 54 lbs I think.

Floats work decent back there, but be careful running them without the bottom out springs. The shock mounts are not designed to take the load of bottoming, my X tore the adjuster mount off when running Floats w/ no bottom springs installed. The welds were not exactly deep, though.

I asked Jeff at Boivin about that and he said the overloads were not necessary. Whether or not that's true I don't know. I've been running without them for a year now with some 100+ ft jumps and I haven't broken a thing. Maybe just the welds on yours were bad???

Get a scale and get some weights otherwise I would reccomend you NOT reccomend a skid when you have no facts. There are claims of a 136 doo SC3 being 45lbs but I cant say I have seen it on a scale.

AJ, Confirming what bjowett already posted. Just unpacked my shocks and the free length (no spring) is 13.75 C to C. Mike Carver rebuilt and revalved these and my GYTR fronts for me. I noticed there was no marking on the expert shocks regarding what brand they are. They are KYB. He installed new pistons to control the rebound better. He progressively valved them for better small bump compliance with out giving up the ability to take big hits. I'll let you know how they work next week sometime.
